VALUE: £5.5m
LOCATION: Cumbria
DESCRIPTION:
Works adopt a whole-house retrofit approach, incorporating Solar PV, loft insulation, ventilation upgrades, and roof adaptations to maintain thermal continuity.

Novus partners with Home Group to deliver a £5.5m retrofit programme across dispersed Cumbrian homes, improving energy efficiency through PAS 2035 wholehouse measures. The scheme combines local delivery, strong resident engagement and robust quality assurance to overcome rural logistics and technical challenges.

Scope:
Delivery of SHDF Wave 2.1 and WH:SHF retrofit programmes across a dispersed Cumbrian housing portfolio, including completion of 550 homes under Wave 2.1 and initial delivery under WH:SHF, with a further 1,200 homes programmed. Works adopt a whole-house retrofit approach, incorporating Solar PV, loft insulation, ventilation upgrades, and roof adaptations to maintain thermal continuity.
Successes:
• Rural Delivery at Scale: Delivering large-scale retrofit across rural and hard-toaccess locations using a clustered delivery model.
• High Resident Satisfaction: Achieving strong resident satisfaction (95% in 2026 to date) through clear communication and engagement.
• Early Risk Resolution: Addressing technical and grid constraints early to avoid delays and redesign.
Challenges:
• Complex Housing Conditions: Managing high levels of cavity wall insulation failure and damp in existing homes.
• Grid & Technical Barriers: Navigating Distribution Network Operator constraints and resident perception of low-carbon technologies.
• Restricted Environments: Coordinating works in locations with limited access and high seasonal demand.
