Stone repair works

We completed a sensitive restoration involving a series of specialist repair works at the Grade II listed Keele Hall, which is part of Keele University, working around several weddings and events to deliver consistently high-quality results.

A 20-strong team of multi-skilled operatives carried out roofing works, stone repairs and repointing to chimneys, along with re-leading to the 19th Century building’s valley gutters. The project, which was carried out in three phases, also involved Novus working on the courtyard, ballroom and lakeside elevations of the hall.

In partnership with Keele Hall, we scheduled work around functions, ensuring the site was fully vacated and tidy ahead of guests arriving for each event. A fabric facade was also erected over the scaffolding, featuring an image of the building, pulling out original features such as windows, brickwork, and carvings to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the venue during the works.

As Keele Hall is Grade II listed, the team had to complete the work sensitively and in keeping with the building’s heritage.

One example of the team’s sympathetic method of working includes moving older, intact roof tiles to the front of the building, with any new tiles installed further towards the back.

A representative from Keele University said: “We are pleased with the professional approach to the scheme and the high standard of workmanship evident in the completed works. Novus has managed to successfully deliver the project with minimal disruption to the various events and activities taking place at Keele Hall.”
