Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
Working with the Trust to maintain, improve, upgrade, and refurbish their hospital estate.
In July 2015, we were appointed onto the Measured Term Contract Framework with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest acute Trusts in the UK, who serve the communities across Manchester, Greater Manchester, North Manchester, and the Northwest. We have worked with the Trust to maintain, improve, upgrade, and refurbish their hospital estate which includes Trafford General Hospital, the birthplace of the NHS.
The Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) encompasses many specialists’ hospital and departments including:

- Peter Mount Building

What type of projects did Novus deliver?

What works did Novus carry out?
2017
In 2017, Novus completed a ward refurbishment within the Service Unit. The refurbishment was needed in order to create new treatment bays, a staff office, nurse base, reception area and welfare facilities.
2018
In 2019, Novus carried out a full refurbishment of the common areas within the Trust Head Office at Cobbett House . This included the main stair core, installation of new lifts and ground floor toilets which involved creating temporary facilities. Novus also carried out The Hive Development which was the creation of a new chemical gas store, as well as Carmoor Road Carpark alterations, which included creating new pedestrian access gates and the installation of new signage.
2019
In 2019, Novus completed alterations to the Chest Clinic. This included creating a new layout which involved new openings for doors, blocking up old doorways, new kitchen units and worktops. Roof repairs at the IVF Clinic were also carried out by us as well as a second-floor kitchen refurbishment at Cobbett House.
In addition to this, 2019 saw us convert an old doctors’ residence on third floor of Cobbett House. into a high specification office space for the Trust. This included creating desk space, a canteen, breakout areas and private offices.
Old steam heaters were also replaced with electrical heating at the Hospitals Social Club.
2020
In 2020, Novus completed first floor alterations of Cobbett House to create a new office layout, along with Façade Repairs to the Grade II listed building. Remedial works to the chapel were also undertaken as part of a long-term project to bring the building back into use.
2021
2021 saw Novus create a new Arts & Wellbeing Centre within Peter Mount. The works included creating workstations, a darkroom, kitchen, welfare facilities and private meeting rooms. The state-of-the-art centre has been set up in order to support NHS staff in Manchester.
What challenges were faced?
We had the challenge of working in live hospital environments. To overcome this, our teams carried out the works with minimal noise and disruption to the staff and the public.
