In 2019, Novus carried out a full refurbishment of the common areas within the Trust Head Office at Cobbett House . This included the main stair core, installation of new lifts and ground floor toilets which involved creating temporary facilities. Roof repairs at the IVF Clinic were also carried out by us as well as a second-floor kitchen refurbishment at Cobbett House.

In addition to this, 2019 saw us convert an old doctors’ residence on third floor of Cobbett House. into a high specification office space for the Trust. This included creating desk space, a canteen, breakout areas and private offices.

Old steam heaters were also replaced with electrical heating at the Hospitals Social Club.

In 2020, Novus completed first floor alterations of Cobbett House to create a new office layout, along with Façade Repairs to the Grade II listed building. Remedial works to the chapel were also undertaken as part of a long-term project to bring the building back into use.

2021

2021 saw Novus create a new Arts & Wellbeing Centre within Peter Mount. The works included creating workstations, a darkroom, kitchen, welfare facilities and private meeting rooms. The state-of-the-art centre has been set up in order to support NHS staff in Manchester.

What challenges were faced?

We had the challenge of working in live hospital environments. To overcome this, our teams carried out the works with minimal noise and disruption to the staff and the public.

Darren Hussey, Contracts Manager at Novus said:

Novus has a long experience of delivering refurbishments and repairs, and we are excited to take on the contract at Central Manchester University Hospital. Our workforce has a vast amount of experience of working in the hospital environment and we are always ready for testing challenges. We are constantly improving as we strive to deliver the best service and value for money that we possibly can, to enhance our relationship with the Trust.

Following on from my progress meeting with the users I would like to feedback that they are pleased with the programme dates and are elated that good progress is being made toward completion so thank you both for your support. Liz said “you’ve made about 50 of my staff instantly happier” Let’s keep it going as a team!’
