We have been working with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) for over six years delivering a wide range of refurbishment projects across their estate in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Wigan.

Project details:

We were awarded a batch of minor refurbishment contracts in live mental health environment, which involved minor refurbishment work of existing rooms over five sites which includes:

  • Maple House, Bolton – PICU Improvement Works
  • Edenfield Building, Prestwich – Reception Upgrade and WC Installation
  • Meadowbrook, Chaucer Ward, Salford – Corridor Upgrade and Seclusion Room Works
  • Bramley Street, Salford – Kitchen Refurbishment

Refurbishment aspects of the project will involve the complete renewal of kitchens and bathrooms to install new sanitary ware, FF&E and finishes, and flooring to other areas. Renewal works to the seclusion suite and new fire rated vision panels to door across multiple sites.

Maple House

Maple House is a 6-bed psychiatric intensive care ward providing 24/7 in-patient care for adults experiencing serious mental health problems. At the Maple House we delivered a complete decoration of bedrooms, ensuites and day lounges. Along with the installation of new anti-ligature sanitary ware, finishes and bedroom furniture. Other works included the replacement of vision panels within existing door sets.

We delivered this site in 9 phases and completed sectional handovers to ensure that all useable space was handed back to the trust as soon as it was completed. We utilised a side entrance to the building ensuring that we reduced our interface with staff and end-users at the site. At our Pre-start meeting we engaged with all stakeholders to understand the site-specific requirements of the project which included site rules and security requirements.

We also performed a project benchmarking exercise to establish the most effective works schedule for the Trust. We held daily communication with the Operational Services and Performance -PICU Manager at the site. Weekly meetings were held with GMMH’s Senior Capital Projects Manger and the wider project team including Principal Designer Day Architecture.

Edenfield Building

For the Edenfield building’s main entrance, we delivered a complete refurbishment of the reception area. This involved the replacement of flooring, decoration and furniture. We held daily communication with the Service Lead at Edenfield site and conducted weekly meetings with GMMH’s Senior Capital Projects Manager.

Meadowbrook, Chaucer Ward

The works to Meadowbrook’s Chaucer Activity Room involved the removal of all ligature items through the room following the Trusts ligature report. We held daily communication with the Service Manager at Bramley Street to discuss progress and the upcoming works. We also held weekly meetings with GMMH’s Senior Capital Projects Manager.

Bramley Street

At the Bramley Street site we installed a new kitchen, which involved the strip-out and removal of kitchen fixture and fitting. We held daily communication with Ward Manager at Bramley Street and weekly meetings with GMMH’s Senior Capital Projects Manager.

Installation of new joinery and case work, new sanitary ware, new lighting, new flooring and decoration was delivered through all five sites.
