Aldi Supermarket – Refurbishment and External Decoration

In 2019 Novus was delighted to be awarded with a contract with one of the leading supermarkets in the UK: Aldi.
Details of the project
The contracted works took place in Bathgate, Scotland and were therefore delivered by the Novus Bathgate office.
The ongoing contract value of circa £170k represented a great win for the office at the time and was particularly pleasing due to the development of the relationship with Aldi.
Contracted works are split into 3 different scopes:
- External render painting to existing stores
- Refresh and refurbishment the internal areas of the stores (nightshift working)
- Painting all components within the new build stores prior to their launch
Working on the contract
Novus worked in close collaboration with Aldi, managing and scheduling works around optimal levels of footfall.
As Novus is accustomed to working in live environments with the public, external works were undertaken during the day with minimal disruption to customers.
The internal refurbishments were conducted during nightshifts, in the interest of safety and so as not to interfere with the customer experience.
Deadlines on the night shift were extremely tight, as the works needed to be completed and delivered in time for reopening the following morning.
Similarly, all new-build works were undertaken alongside a number of different contractors and to a demanding programme.
As the new-store launch dates were set in stone, there was no room for delay in the project delivery and handover of each individual case.
Our work with Aldi
Novus comes under the umbrella of the principle contractor on new build sites this presented an unsual challenge, as we are normally the principle contractor ourselves.
Our relationship with Aldi developed from an initial £6k trial project back in May 2019.
Since then, Aldi have entrusted Novus with this project comprising £170k of various works and have subsequently been invited to price works for Aldi’s Scottish distribution centre.
