Novus wins prestigious health and safety award
Our robust health and safety standards have been recognised by the Building Safety Group (BSG), after Novus employee Barry Hill was named Site Manager of the Year for the North of England Region.
The BSG is an independent safety consultant which selected Barry from more than 200 sites they inspected for Novus and a multitude of other building companies in the North of England.
Barry, who is based at Aintree University Hospital on Merseyside, was handed the award by the BSG for his commitment to maintaining Novus’ highest standards of health and safety while successfully managing simultaneous projects in a live hospital environment.
Barry, who has worked in the construction industry for 20 years, is based at the hospital where he manages a large team of directly employed and sub-contractors, ensuring all work is carried out with health and safety as a key priority.
Our team carries out ward refurbishments, corridor upgrades, roofing work and external landscaping work on the site, as part of a five-year measured term contract. The work includes demolition, joinery and decoration, which is often carried out in live environments, so the health and safety of staff, members of the public, patients and workers is constantly considered and taken very seriously.
Barry, who was handed the accolade by Paul Kimpton, managing director at BSG, said: “I am delighted to have been acknowledged by the BSG for my commitment to health and safety and to be recognised for my work in making the hospital site a safe place for each and every individual.

“I take health and safety extremely seriously and ensure the Novus team at Aintree Hospital is fluid in its operations, working around day-to-day hospital activity and completing work safely and efficiently while maintaining Novus’ high standards. We work in phases and at all hours of the day in partnership with the hospital to ensure that our work has minimal impact on people on the site.”
Alan Nixon, director, said: “At Novus, we prioritise health and safety and maintain and continually promote welfare within the workplace, ensuring employees are working safely at all times. Winning this award is an indication that Novus is succeeding in achieving and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.”
