Novus team brush with Slovenian president

A team of three Novus employees recently took part in an annual humanitarian project in Slovenia, and even met the country’s president during their challenge.

Steve Hand, along with apprentices Daniel Holdcroft and James Riley, completed painting and decorating work in classrooms at a speech and hearing school in the town of Portoroz.

The event was organised by the Slovenian Painters group and the country’s president Borut Pahor and the mayor of Piran, Peter Bossmann, even dropped in to meet the Novus team.

The trio were the only team from overseas to have ever taken part in the challenge, which has been running for 16 years and attracts a range of skilled tradespeople from across Slovenia.

The team was handed a Priznanje – a certificate of recognition – for taking part in the event, along with a gift box each.

Training assessor Steve Hand said: “This was a valuable skills and experience event for our two apprentices and a great chance to improve facilities in an international setting. As we were the only team from overseas to have ever taken part in the initiative, we were treated like royalty! It was a great experience from start to finish.”
