Novus supports Business Class careers events
As part of our commitment to Business in the Community’s Business Class initiative, we took part in two careers events at Staffordshire Cluster schools.
We attended an event hosted by our Business Class partner Thistley Hough Academy, which aimed to inspire children as young as nine to think about their futures.
Our training assessor Steve Hand, along with 17 fellow advisors, took part in a question and answer session with Year 5 pupils from three of the academy’s feeder schools.
Thistley Hough’s careers education, information, advice and guidance manager Sue Greenhalgh said: “We believe we are the first high school in the United Kingdom to offer careers guidance specifically to Year 5 children and had to tailor make the programme to suit the needs of this particular age group.”
We also visited the Cooperative Academy in Stoke to give pupils the chance to try out their painting and decorating skills and offer them valuable career advice.
Steve Hand, along with our CSR manager Kevin Rhone, encouraged students to pick up a brush and give painting a go, and offered vocational advice to those interested in a career in construction.
The academies are two of the eight schools in the Staffordshire Cluster, which our chairman Stuart Seddon is chair of. We’re supporting each of the schools involved where we can.
