Novus helps Shaun build skills and experience
We gave an unemployed 19-year-old the opportunity to gain skills and experience by offering him a work placement in partnership with youth charity the Prince’s Trust.
We have an ongoing commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate and employed Shaun Bevan to work on one of our sites for social housing provider Plus Dane Housing.
Shaun, who was struggling to find work, secured a four-week placement through the Prince’s Trust and specialist procurement consortium Fusion 21. He spent eight days with our team on a site on Overpool Road in Ellesmere Port and the remainder of his time completing college-based learning with a group of other young people.
On the Plus Dane site, he helped to move and fit double glazed units, liaised with residents and gained experience of being at work in a construction environment. We have a two-year partnership with Plus Dane, and carry out work including external redecoration and pre-paint repairs to 18,000 homes across the North West.
Mark Johnson, operations manager, said: “We were really impressed with Shaun - he was enthusiastic, committed, and we saw lots of potential in him. He commuted from his home in Liverpool to Ellesmere Port every day, proving how dedicated he was not only to his work, but also to building his skills and experience so he can find employment in the future.”
Shaun said: “I enjoyed the placement with Novus and feel as if I got the most out of my time with the team. It was great to see how a construction company like Novus operates and to get some work experience behind me so I can gain employment in the near future.”
