Novus celebrates Steelite factory extension
Steelite Internatonal hosted a topping out ceremony in its new factory space to celebrate our team's construction of a new dish cell extension.
The £1.6 million extension will double production capacity for renowned tableware manufacturer Steelite, encouraging growth and helping to create more than 60 jobs in the Stoke-on-Trent area.
We began constructing the dish cell extension in December, and the Steelite team is expected to begin work in July with full production getting underway by August.
Our chairman Stuart Seddon and Steelite chief executive Kevin Oakes together signed the highest steel rafter inside the extension from a cherry picker, to mark the final episode of production before completion in August.
At the ceremony, in Newcastle Street in Burslem, Stoke, Stuart and Kevin both made speeches to celebrate the success of their partnership and the two workforces.
Along with representatives from Novus and Steelite, Royal Crown Derby attended the ceremony as well as councillor for Burslem Central Alan Dutton and architects from Wood Goldstraw and Yorath, who designed the extension.
Stuart said: “We are delighted to have been involved with this project. My grandfather always used to say you are never safe in this business until you are out of the ground and a row of gas pipes we uncovered caused us a few problems, but with some innovative thinking it didn't stop progress. We are extremely proud to support what Steelite International is trying to achieve in Burslem.”

Kevin added: "Our factory had reached capacity and this expansion will offer 22,000 sq ft of production space for over 30,000 pieces of ware when completed. Importantly it is creating an additional 60-plus jobs this year. It's a very exciting new chapter and reaffirms the company's commitment to manufacturing in the UK and in Stoke-on-Trent."
