Novus brings sparkle back to 12th century mansion
We have revived eight apartments in a converted 12th century mansion, providing country club visitors with new and improved facilities.

Set in a 30-acre estate and located in the hamlet of Thurnham, just five miles from the historic city of Lancaster, Grade I listed Thurnham Hall is a stunning country club owned by Diamond Resorts. Its luxury self-catering apartments have all been designed to a high standard, balancing the heritage of the building with a contemporary style.

The team from our Preston office carried out the project, which comprised a full internal refurbishment of eight apartments, in just over two months. This included the installation of new kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms which are already proving popular with those staying at the country club.

The building’s listed status made regular consulting with conservation officers essential to ensure that work adhered to requirements. Considerations for Thurnham Hall included ceiling height and both floors and walls running out of plumb, as well as the demands that come with the installation of new services in a building with split floor access and levels.

A further challenge to the renovation was that the country club remained open throughout the works, which began in May 2016, meaning that the our operatives had to demonstrate extreme vigilance working around visitors. This, coupled with the communal original listed staircase being our main access to the mansion building, meant health and safety was of paramount importance to this project.

Sam Frame, our operations manager said “As the club remained open to the public we had to be extremely vigilant and ensure operatives were briefed accordingly on site. The whole team worked to impeccable health and safety standards throughout the two month project and made sure that any disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.

“Drawing on our extensive experience within the leisure sector, we were able to work around the constraints of the building’s listed status to deliver the project within the tight deadline. The result is eight modern fully refurbished apartments within a superb mansion.”

Stuart Hunter, facilities and projects manager at Diamond Resorts International, adds “We’ve already had very positive feedback from guests at Thurnham Hall, thanks to the quality of work completed by Novus Property Solutions.

“Summer is one of our busiest times so it was vital that the work was completed by early July. Novus delivered the works on schedule and worked hard to ensure minimal disruption was caused during the two months that the work was being carried out.

“We hope that guests at Thurnham Hall will continue to enjoy the newly renovated apartments for years to come!”
