MEET OLIVIA: OUR SIXTH GENERATION SEDDON
Here at Novus, we’re incredibly proud of our rich 127-year history, which is underpinned by strong family values.
As a company currently led by fourth and fifth generation family members, we take part in Family Business Week every November. This annual celebration highlights the important role family businesses play in the UK, and this year’s theme focuses on the contribution they make to local economies and communities. The theme acknowledges the positive impact family-run companies can have on the areas they operate in, and this is something we feel passionately about.
This year’s celebration is particularly special for Novus, as a sixth generation Seddon family member has joined the business. 18-year-old Olivia Seddon began her new position as our Trainee Customer Liaison Officer recently, and we caught up with her to find out more about her role and how she feels about joining the family business.
Tell us more about your role, and what do you enjoy most about it?
As a trainee Customer Liaison Officer (CLO), I shadow the CLO team to learn more about the role and how Novus delivers excellent customer service in every contract. I get involved in this myself to support the team on our larger contracts, and I also help with the social value elements of our contracts.
One of my favourite things about the role is seeing properties be completed as I work on site. It’s really rewarding to see the residents so happy with the improvements we’ve made to their homes.
What are your future career plans?
I’d like to go to university to study quantity surveying, and I think working on site as a trainee CLO will be a great foundation for this.
As well as helping me gain valuable experience ahead of going to university, working at Novus has helped me understand more about the family business and how it works. I’m looking forward to being able to use this knowledge to add to family council meetings one day too.
How does it feel to be part of the Seddon family legacy?
I love being part of the Seddon family legacy! I remember playing in my mum’s office when I was little and visiting my papa (my grandad, Stuart Seddon) in his office, and now they’re coming to visit me at the site office. I’m really proud to be able to contribute to the business I know my family has worked really hard for.
