HELPING OUR COLLEAGUES THRIVE

Embedded in our culture is the belief that everyone should have a future to look forward to. At all levels of our business, we provide colleagues with the opportunity to grow, develop and progress their careers with us.

We integrate both learning and development within our employee experience through comprehensive inductions, mandatory training, apprenticeship programmes and continuing professional development.

In 2021, we completed competency frameworks for every role in the business, helping us to provide clarity on the knowledge, skills and behaviours required, while enabling us to offer relevant career growth and progression opportunities.

As part of our commitment to this cause, this year we launched our first Leadership and Management Apprenticeship which helps give colleagues a leadership toolkit to develop themselves, their teams and deliver success to our customers.

In addition, this summer saw us commence our Elevate Leadership Programme where we welcomed 13 talented colleagues to enhance their leadership skills. Consisting of 10 modules delivered over 11 months, the programme will equip our colleagues with the skills they need to play a part in leading Novus.

Balancing our support across all roles, throughout the year we’re proud to have delivered training sessions to colleagues at all levels. These workshops saw a total of 817 colleagues attend.

We’ve also invested in 57 employees, helping them through further education to increase technical knowledge. Examples include Bid Writing, Decarbonisation, RICS Contract Law and Passive Fire Protection.

Our Apprentice Cohort

2022 marks our 85th year of recruiting and supporting apprentices.

Our apprentices play a vital role in helping to deliver and exceed our customers’ expectations whilst bringing fresh and innovative ways of working to our teams. Each year we are pleased to offer individuals the opportunity to start their career with us and we have a robust programme in place to ensure they have everything in their power to succeed.

Working closely with the leaders across business divisions, we determine the scope for apprentices
based on workstreams and their ability to support the apprentices within their teams. This ensures our apprentices receive the right exposure to produce evidence for their apprenticeship standards and gives them an outstanding experience with their local team.

As our apprentices are located throughout Great Britain, we work with local colleges and build strong relationships to ensure the apprentices have access to a nearby college and that the course is right for them.

In 2022, we received 863 applications for our apprenticeship opportunities. After a rigorous selection process – including 300 telephone interviews and virtual assessment banks – 17 new apprentices joined the Novus family.

Welcoming these apprentices into the business, in September we held our annual apprentice residential at the Kingswood Centre, Wolverhampton. The three-day programme was aligned to our core values and aimed to give the apprentices the skills to succeed in their apprenticeships.

Whether it’s nurturing the next generation, or supporting our long-standing colleagues to further their careers, we always seek to upskill our workforce and ensure a consistent approach to training is taken across all departments.
