A GLOBAL EFFORT TO ACHIEVE DECARBONISATION, AND FAST!

Achieving carbon neutral properties has become a major driver in the government’s ‘Net Zero’ carbon reduction plans, and the need to decarbonise faster has become more and more prevalent.
One of the key reasons decarbonisation is such a slow process is that it involves a big transition in the way we source and use energy. Even now, over 80% of the energy we use still comes from fossil fuels, and so changing from this requires a massive shift across the globe. Such a big change is complex and is going to take time. It involves actions from people and business across the world, from those in the public sectors to those in the private arena.
Working to achieve net zero, both governments and businesses can take numerous steps towards this. If these parties work together, the efforts will be amplified, allowing us to bring some speed to decarbonisation.
There are a number of factors that impact the success of carbon reduction initiatives globally. These include government policies and regulations, the ability to be innovative and develop relevant products, having a market with the appetite for change and having the societal will to accept alternatives in our daily lives. Together, these actions enable each other, and with each positive step forward they create momentum.
But these steps need time to reach their full impact, and so the sooner private and public sectors act – and the more people that are driving the change globally – the faster we can achieve results. As businesses, we need to adopt carbon neutral alternatives and help the wider public accept these transitions to minimise any negative impacts.
Leaders across business and political landscapes have a common will to reach a net zero economy. This common goal gives us an extraordinary opportunity to make impactful change, and by working in unison, we can work to propel decarbonisation forward on the road to a net zero future.
