An Interview With Our Head of Bid – Stephen Timmins

We sat down with our recently appointed Head of Bid Management Stephen Timmins to learn more about his role and what makes him tick.
So Stephen, What does your role entail?
As Head of Bid Management I manage the central bid team and our core function across the business is winning new opportunities for Novus.
We work on all the opportunities across the business with the estimating team, operations team, and the Board to make sure the contracts that we are trying to win are fit for purpose and to give Novus the best possible chance of securing our future.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Winning! It is a very clear win or lose game with regards to what we do – the end result is a contract win or contract lose.
So we're very motivated to win as much business as we possibly can, which keeps me going and that is really the inspriation and motivation for what I do.
Who Inspired you to do the job you do today?
My job is a fairly new role, Bid Management has only really exsited for around 10-15 years in the form that we see it at the moment but my granddad was a professional football player and whilst I wasn't good enough to play football, I found something where I have that ambition to win and doing the job that I do at the moment helps me fulfil that ambition.
What skill do you think should be taught at school?
Without a doubt, life skills. By that I mean the ability to set up a bank account, understand what a mortgage is, and just the little things that they never tell you like the importance of managing your finances – the stuff you just have to find out as you go through the journey. It is something that is missing and it really important to know.
Thank you for your time Stephen!
We're glad to hear you have settled in well and are delighted to have you as part of the Novus Team.
