Novus team up with The Prince's Trust to help young people get into construction
Novus Property Solutions has given a dozen unemployed young people from the area a chance to experience life in the construction industry through The Prince's Trust Get into Construction programme.

The Prince's Trust and Novus organised an intensive three-week course for the 12 trainees -- aged between 18 and 25 -- enabling them to gain practical experience and training in painting and decorating, joinery and maintenance.

The Get into Construction course included a one-and-a-half week placement on site with Novus, working on a real-life maintenance and painting project. During their site placements, each trainee was assigned a Novus tradesperson as their personal mentor.

The trainees also underwent health and safety and manual handling training at Novus' own Centre of Excellence training centre and had the opportunity to gain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card -- a qualification needed to work on UK construction sites. Novus expects seven of the trainees to gain CSCS cards (four had the card already).

In addition, Novus organised a painting competition for the trainees where they had to complete a project to a particular time frame and to a set standard which was then assessed. The trainees also took part in a team-building exercise and a community project involving clearing some parkland close to the Middleport Pottery. Some of the trainees also had the opportunity to work with Novus' supplier Jewson.

"We're delighted to be supporting The Prince's Trust Get into Construction programme which provides young people with invaluable work experience as well as the chance to build up their skills, qualifications and confidence," says Novus Property Solutions Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Kevin Rhone.
