Novus Give a Gift at Christmas Campaign - Blog Update
Novus employees across the country have always got involved in charitable activities around the Christmas period, however in 2011 we held our first coordinated national charitable Christmas campaign asking all our employees to get involved. This campaign was called the ‘Novus Give a Gift at Christmas Appeal ‘ or ‘Give a Gift’ for short and involved each area office donating presents or fundraising and then donating these gifts to charitable and good causes in the communities Novus are working. For the forth year running we asked all Novus offices, sites and employees to get involved again and this blog highlights the activities that took place across the country.

Novus London
While working at Lawrence Court in London for Places for People carrying out groundworks and landscaping to a communal garden area, Novus donated two benches to help the residents enjoy their new surroundings as a Christmas guesture!
Novus Contract Manager, Florin Nistor and Novus’ Social Value lead, Kevin Rhone attended to hand over the benches to the residents. One resident commented: she was very pleased with the work being done, and that the Novus team were very polite and respectful, and another resident commented: She was happy with the contractors, and looking forward to using the improved area."
Contract Manager, Florin Nistor commented; “we are helping Places for People improve their neighbourhoods across the country and as a partner we are keen to support in any additional ways we can, and it was for this reason we came up with the idea to donate some benches, as this would allow the residents to sit outside and enjoy their improved communal garden.”

Novus Scotland
Home Scotland held a community event in Castlemilk where Novus are currently carrying out Kitchen replacement works. Novus attended the event to offer a DIY skills session, allowing residents to pick up some decorating skills. Novus the Bear and Father Christmas were also in attendance (with a Novus employee dressing up as Santa), there was also face painting and Christmas selection boxes to keep the children from the local community entertained.

Novus Scottish Offices’ currently provide Reactive Repairs for Melville Housing Association. 2015 marks the Housing Association’s 20th year and with this in mind as a gesture to recognise the Anniversary Novus have decided to make a donation to their local Food Bank, the Trussell Trust Midlothian Food Bank. Over 900,000 adults and children have received three days’ emergency food and support from Trussell Trust foodbanks in the last 12 months, a shocking 163 percent rise on numbers helped in the previous financial year. This donation should go some way to help Scotland's most vulnerable people this Christmas.

Novus Glasgow
Our Glasgow and Bathgate offices also donated selection boxes to St Rochs Nursery and Childcare. Some of these children come from poorer backgrounds so even a small token like a selection box can make a huge difference.

Novus Preston
The site team in Preston passed on the opportunity to have a Christmas party, deciding instead to use the money to donate presents to the Rock FM Christmas toy appeal.

Novus Warrington
Novus Warrington donated toys and games to the Manchester University Hospitals childrens ward. The toys and games will remain on the wards and will be enjoyed by patients for years to come.

Novus Southampton
Novus Southampton donated Christmas presents to the Poole Housing Partnership Mission Christmas appeal. 1 in 3 children are living in poverty in the region, with many families struggling to provide gifts at Christmas. The PHP Mission Christmas Appeal identified disadvantaged children from organisations such as social services, womens refuges, family centres, schools and food banks. These children then received a wrapped present at Christmas.

The Southampton team in additional to the above update also donated presents to a Sovereign Housing Centre for the disabled. Mr and Mrs Claus and their Elves helped spread Christmas cheer at the Centre.

The Southampton team while on their Christmas night out noticed a homeless man near the resturant they where eating at. Sean has been homeless and sleeping rough for two years, and the Novus Operations Manager, Ray Feilder thought it was only right that he donate his meal to Sean. Ray commented; "Hopefully this gesture will help to make Seans Christmas and New Year a happy one. Merry Christmas Sean."

Novus Wrexham
Novus in Wrexham have hosted a festive coffee morning complete with mince pies for residents At Wynnstay. The morning was a great excuse for residents to get together, catch up and gather feedback on the work to their homes.

The shoe boxes were then collected to be distributed around the world to be gifted to children who may not otherwise receive any gifts. Some of the women there are starting their lives from scratch, with literally little or no possessions meaning that the gifts delivered by Novus may be the only gifts these children receive this year. Novus supported the Pathway Project last year and is delighted to be able to help again.

Novus Stoke
