Novus Give a Gift at Christmas Campaign - Blog Update
Novus employees across the country have always got involved in charitable activities around the Christmas period, however in 2011 we held our first coordinated national charitable Christmas campaign asking all our employees to get involved. This campaign was called the ‘Novus Give a Gift at Christmas Appeal ‘ or ‘Give a Gift’ for short and involved each area office donating presents or fundraising and then donating these gifts to charitable and good causes in the communities Novus are working. for the forth year running we are asking all Novus offices, sites and employees to get involved again. This blog highlights the plans in place and activities once these plans are carried out.

Novus support Primary School in Poole
Novus employees have been supporting a school within the area where Novus are refurbishing kitchens and bathrooms for Poole Housing Partnership (PHP). While working in the area Novus have established a site near a school, and as a result have built a strong relationship with the Primary School. Some of the support Novus have provided to the school include, Novus repairing the playground area as some sections were a hazard, sports equipment being donated, and kids safety vests have also been donated. Recently to help brighten up the Novus compound the school kids also helped decorate some boards to display around the external fencing to the site to help brighten the site entrance. Ray Fielder, Novus Operations Manager commented; "Novus are committed to supporting the communities we work in, and the support we have provided this school is a great example of how Novus can develop a great relationship with a community organisation and make a difference to lots of local people. We have done a lot so far and plan to do a lot more in the future, and I know this is why our partner PHP like doing business with Novus." Mr Hatchard, Deputy Head at Hillbourne Primary School commented; "It is great that Novus have been supporting our school, their hands on support has made a real difference to our pupil's from keeping them safe to involving them in improving their community."

Novus support Riverside Festival
Novus Property Solutions are working in partnership with Riverside Housing across the Midlands. As part of our commitment to the partnership we support Riverside with a number of community projects that benefits their residents. At this year’s Festival, Novus not only provided a team of volunteers to set up and dismantle the Festival marque's and equipment, the Novus team also held an eco and energy advice stand providing Riverside residents with an opportunity to learn about how they could reduce their energy bills. Novus employees also held an eco quiz competition, with the chance to win a range of energy efficient items for their homes (and the children could also enter a Novus Colouring Competition with the chance to win a bike). Novus provide added value support to all of our clients like this across the country as part of our CSR Programme. Matt Rolnik, Novus Operations Manager for the Riverside Contract who attended the Festival commented: "Our client, Riverside Housing support this festival every year as it is a great way to involve their residents and bring the local community together. Riverside are a key partner and this is the another example of how we go above and beyond to support Riverside with their wider objectives. I spoke to the Riverside team and everyone of them commented on how impressed they were at the effort Novus had put into supporting their event."​

Novus in Plymouth help bring community centre back into use
Novus in Plymouth have refurbished the Foxfield Close community centre in a Devon and Cornwall Housing area. It was for this reason a team of Novus employees, DCH employees and local residents volunteered to internally refurbish the building. Now the centre is open for use again there are a number of activities planned from; job club, I.T training to movie nights for local kids. over £93070 worth of social value has been delivered to the local community through Novus' support of this project.

Novus Birmingham Employees donate toys to Birmingham Children's Hospital
The Novus team from Birmingham collected presents from employees, clients and subcontractors over the Christmas period and donated them to Birmingham Children's Hospital. A total of £235 was raised from donations.

Novus fundraise and donate £1000 worth of toys to Great Ormond Street Hospital
Novus employees having been fundraising throughout the year on site by recycling and selling scrap metal. From this fundraising the team purchased £1000 worth of toys and donated them to Great Ormond Street Hospital. The presents were then passed on to kids at the hospital over the Christmas period.

Novus employee raises £500 for Poole Hospital Cancer Clinic
Novus employee Lee Ricketts, who is a Painting Foreman from our Poole area office undertook a sponsored head shave to raise money for charity. He raised an impressive £500 which he is going to donate to the patients of Poole Hospital Cancer Clinic, Sandbanks Ward as this is a cause close to his heart.

Novus are working in partnership with Places for People in the London Borough of Hounslow on a kitchen refurbishment programme. During the 4 year £16 Million Partnership Novus have pledged to support Places for People with delivering their social value objectives.

Novus support a commemorative event in partnership with Cotman Housing Association
Novus are proud to be supporting a commemorative event in partnership with Cotman Housing Association. The event involved a two minute silence followed by the planting of poppy seeds at Bowthorpe Community Gardens, in Norwich. Our operatives in Cambridge have built three planters for the seeds, to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War. The poppy planting will be attended by people of all ages, from school children to war veterans

Novus employees take part in charity football match
A team of 30 Novus staff played in a football match at the Kidsgrove Athletic FC stadium to help raise funds for our South Africa trip in February. Employees donated money and sports kit towards the international project we’re taking part in. We’ll be transforming a school near Cape Town to improve education facilities in the area. We recently sponsored one of the stands at the Kidsgrove stadium to improve the club’s amenities.Well done to all who took part in the match!

South Africa beckons for Novus team of employees
We’ve asked employees to apply to take part in a trip to South Africa to help improve the facilities of a school near Cape Town. Novus South Africa team members will be given the opportunity to use their plastering, painting, landscaping and general maintenance skills to help refurbish an education facility in the country.

Novus hold Coffee Morning at Anchor Scheme on the Wirral
The Novus Warrington team recently held a Coffee Morning at one of the Anchor schemes they have been working on as part of the reactive maintenance contract. Novus not only provided lunch at the scheme on the Wirral, but also donated 50 sets of cutlery so the residents could hold future lunches as well. Suzanne Garret, the Anchor Location Manager on the scheme commented how happy she was with the service Novus have provided and thanked the Novus team for putting on an excellent coffee morning and lunch as well. Suzanne also handed over a bunch of flowers to Abigalyle Wood, Novus Quantity Surveyor who worked on the scheme to show their appreciation.

Novus Liverpool support Community Event organised by their client One Vision Housing
The Novus Liverpool team led by Mike Madden, Operations Manager got into the community spirit of things by supporting at a community festival organised by their client, One Vision Housing. The Community Festival is called Boofest and aims to bring the whole of the community together to enjoy a range of activities.

Novus support Stafford and Rural Homes Community Event
Novus are working in partnership with Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) on a £3 million external refurbishment programme on seven apartment blocks. Through this partnership Novus are supporting four community events each week throughout the summer holidays. Led by Novus Customer and Community Manager Nicola Hall the Novus team had a skills stand where residents could have a go at painting and learn some new skills.

Novus team run Potters Arf for UHNS Charity
A team of Novus employees led by Director Chris Walford joined 2000 other runners and took part in the Potters Arf Marathon to raise money for charity. The Novus team raised £1250 for a the University Hospital of North Staffordshire Charity (UHNS Charity). Novus employees across the country take part in challenges for charity all year round and this challenge is a great example of what our employees can achieve for charity when they set their mind to it!

Novus support Business Class Partner develop a school farm
Apprentices and volunteers from Stoke-on-Trent-based property refurbishment and maintenance specialist Novus Property Solutions completed a hands-on Community Challenge, helping Thistley Hough Academy begin work on constructing its school farm. A team of 20 workers from Fenton-based contractor Novus dug their way to a victorious day at the school, helping to build a path across the farm, construct new fencing and install a pen which will eventually be home to a family of farm animals.

Novus Director completes Charity Challenge to raise money for cancer
Our director Alan Nixon has taken part in the Snowdon 500 Challenge in aid of prostate cancer research. Alan climbed Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, raising a thousand pounds for the Prostate Cancer Research Centre. More than 30,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year and the Snowdon 500 Challenge attempts to raise much needed funds in the quest to develop improved treatments and survival rates. Novus help bring a school garden back to life at Thistley Hough Academy
Novus supported Thistley Hough Academy with a garden refurbishment. Their task was to develop the built up plots, with the assist from the teachers as well as the money invested by Novus. With the money the academy were able to purchase multiple plants so the students were able to get an understanding of “hands on” work. The students all had up to 2 hours to create an idea which represented their house.

Novus provide A2Dominium  Housing Customers with Recycled Benches
Novus are working in partnership with A2Dominium housing Group refurbishing their property portfolio. It was on the refurbishment of one of these schemes that a resident asked one of the Novus operatives if we could help with some seating as they residents had know where to seat in the communal garden areas. This was brought up at one of the management meetings and as Novus are working in partnership with Dulux on this contract, Novus and Dulux each donated a bench made out of recycled materials and installed them at the scheme for the residents to enjoy over the summer months.

Novus provide support to school pupil's through the Industrial Cadets Programme
Novus Property Solutions as part of our CSR Programme and our commitment to supporting schools and skills development in the communities we work in held an Industrial Cadets Project. The project involved inviting 10 pupils from two local schools in Stoke to our head office skills academy to take part in a 'Financial Painting Challenge' to improve the pupils skills and provide them with a taste of the world of work.

The Novus Give a Gift a Appeal and Easter Egg Appeal Making a Difference
Novus employees across the country have always got involved in charitable activities to support vulnerable people in the communities we work within, which in why throughout the year we hold coordinated national charitable Christmas and Easter campaigns asking all our employees to get involved. This year’s campaigns were called the ‘Novus Give a Gift at Christmas Appeal ‘ and the ‘Nous Easter Egg Appeal’ and involved each area office donating presents or fundraising and then donating these gifts in partnership with our clients to charitable and good causes. These campaign’s were a huge success with events taking place across the country in; Scotland, Wrexham, York, Liverpool, Warrington, Stoke, Burton, Leicester, Cambridge, Birmingham, Romford, Plymouth and Devon. In total over 250 Christmas gifts and 1000 Easter were donated to worthy causes!

Novus employees hold coffee morning with Accent Housing Group Residents
Novus Property Solutions via the Preston area office are working in partnership with Accent Housing Group and have completed internal decoration works at Ramsey Park in Barrow-In-Furness. Site Foreman Andy Catterall and his team carried out the works. The team went above and beyond during the works, holding a coffee morning and repainting some garden benches.

Novus support BITC Business Class School Pupil Employment Event
Business in the community (BITC) held an employment event called 'Your Choice, Your Future' with over 500 school pupil's from across the West Midlands attending the event which was held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Novus Property Solutions are a member of BITC and we are also chairing a Business Class Programme in Staffordshire. It was for this reason that BITC invited Novus along to support the event. At the event we had an information desk with lots of information about careers at Novus and the construction sector, and we also had a paint stand to allow school pupil's to learn some new painting skills.

The Novus Anchor Contract team hold end of kitchen works Christmas party
Novus held Christmas Lunch as part of the Give a Gift Appeal with the Residents at Henbury Court. Novus employees served them sandwiches, savoury's, cakes and scones. We have just completed all the new kitchen installations at this Scheme for the residents and they are all highly delighted with the improvements.

We endeavour to offer a service that provides excellent Customer Care and addresses the needs of all customers through our Customer and Community Programme. Our dedicated Customer and Community Team engage with our customers, listening to and implementing their views and ideas. They also ensure that all customers are treated with respect and equality. We work in partnership with our clients to deliver a customer focused service which is responsive to the needs of customers and is polite, courteous and respectful. Overall we aim to offer exceptional service to individuals and the communities within which we work and the Wrexham Contract is a great example of this in action.

Novus Donate £100 to local school as part of our Charity Giving Programme
The team at Novus were invited to the grand opening of the new school classrooms that we refurbished over the summer period. Mike Swindells the Novus Commercial Manager commented: “The Project is very much in keeping with the existing look of school, with the two extensions seamlessly blending in and it was great to be invited back and thanked by the Teachers, Pupil's and the local Mayor." Those attending the event were given the chance to look around the new extension during the school’s autumn fair. We began the school’s fundraising with a donation of £100 from the Novus Charity Giving Fund.

Novus York support a local art community project
A community arts project got off to a flying start thanks to the help off Novus employees. A Local artist, teamed up with Canon Lee Specialist Arts College for the project to create a new mural for its main hall. Novus sponsored the project and provided all painting products and equipment while two Novus employees, including ex-student Andrew Waddington, attended the event to offer their help. Novus’ new mascot also paid a visit to show his support.

Novus employees recycle scrap for charity
The Novus team working on the Premier Inn hotel room refurbishment contract have started selling the scrap metal from the bathrooms of the hotels they are working in to raise money for charity. Each room refurbished might only make a few pounds from recycling scrap, but with a national refurbishment programme this all adds up and could raise hundreds if not thousands of pounds.

Novus Bangor office support local Community Centre​
The team at Novus Bangor work in partnership with Cartrefi Conwy, a registered social landlord in North Wales with over 3700 properties. Cartrefi asked Novus if we could support a community centre located in the heart of one of their housing areas with a Gas Certificate, PAT test all the electrical equipment and make some general maintenance repairs.
