Description: Construction of three bungalows

We once again demonstrated our versatility following the construction of three bungalows for elderly occupancy in Stoke-on-Trent.

Designed to provide sheltered housing facilities for three couples, construction of the bungalows at Wooldridge Court for Stoke-on-Trent City Council began in July 2015, and we successfully created the accessible homes with brick face walls and pitched tiled roofs.

In an area with a history of mine working the site needed to be remediated to enable the construction. A series of 14 bore holes were drilled 16 metres deep and the site was grouted to ensure an adequate bearing capacity for the new bungalows.

Woolridge Court, in the Smallthorne area of the city, contains 27 flats with communal areas and combined living, dining and kitchen spaces. It has undergone a full programme of remodelling and the new bungalows were completed to a high standard to compliment the modernised, free-flowing spaces that provide residents with a vibrant, uplifting environment.

The properties have been created to Homes and Communities Agency Design and Quality Standards, meeting the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 Certification.

Councillor Randy Conteh, Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s cabinet member for housing, communities and safer city, said: “We are committed to raising housing standards and improving the quality of life for residents.

“This sheltered accommodation scheme was targeted for improvements through the authority’s older people’s housing strategy, and the remodelling and refurbishments were very carefully planned with the needs of residents in mind.

“We’re very pleased with the bungalows, and I’m sure the new residents will be too.”

Dean Povey, commercial manager of Novus Property Solutions, said: “Our firm has a long and proud history of delivering safe, accessible, sustainable homes for elderly people, and the new bungalows at Woolridge Court are in keeping with that tradition.”
