Contract Value: £900,000
Duration: 36 weeks
Location: Stoke-on-Trent
Project Description: Construction of eight terraced homes

For Stoke-on-Trent Housing Society, we built eight brand new affordable homes nine weeks ahead of the agreed deadline.

We constructed the terraced homes – all with front and back gardens – following the initial demolition of a derelict and unsafe former public house. The properties will be owned by the Society but managed on its behalf by housing association, Aspire Housing.

Our team members showcased their skills across multiple trades during the work, with Novus leading
the project in Thurston Way, Berryhill, from start to finish.
Our work on this contract included, but was not limited to the laying of foundations, construction of the homes, electrical, plumbing, roofing and plastering work, kitchen and bathroom installations and painting and decorating.

Designed by architect Ellis Hillman, each home adheres to the Secured by Design initiative and is also designed to be easily adapted for people with disabilities. Light fittings were installed by us at appropriate heights, while ramps were built for ease of access and stair lifts can be fitted simply, thanks to the installation of specialist flooring systems.

We followed the Code for Sustainable Homes throughout construction, implementing robust waste management strategies and installing low energy lighting, insulation and other energy efficient products to ensure sustainability.
Ged Carr, contracts manager, said: “We delivered this multi-trade contract with a whole nine weeks to spare and to the highest quality, ensuring we adhered to the Considerate Constructors Scheme along the way so all stakeholders involved were more than happy with the work.”

Trevor Jones, the chair of Stoke-on-Trent Housing Society, said: “Novus has worked effectively in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent Housing Society to achieve a high quality affordable housing product. These new homes will provide welcome affordable housing for people who can’t afford to buy or rent from a private landlord.”
