Project description: Fire retardant paint application

We worked in partnership with Renfrewshire Council to carry out interior paint application work in 10 blocks of flats in Glasgow, using a flame-retardant five-layer coating system.

The council was delighted with the work and with the timescale within which we completed the project; our team of 10 workers completed the fire-retardant work in the first two tower blocks in just five weeks. Drawing on this experience, we finished the next two blocks in just three weeks. The council was so impressed by our work that they then gave us a six-month contract to carry out further work for them.

Once the paint work had been completed in each tower block, using the Timonox system, the coatings were tested by the manufacturer to ensure they were the correct thickness and the Council then received a fire rating certificate for each block.

As part of this contract, we offered a work placement to a young apprentice, Alan Cairns, who had been put forward to us by the council. We gave Alan the opportunity to learn new skills, gain experience and train as a painter and decorator with us, giving his prospects a boost and establishing a career path for him.

We also carry out work in schools, care homes and other housing association properties for Renfrewshire Council, ensuring all work is completed efficiently and to our usual high standards.

Andy McNichol, Glasgow office operations manager, said: “The client was delighted with the timescale in which we completed the towers and we received high praise and compliments from them on the standard of the work.”
