  • Premier Inn MEN Manchester
Client: Whitbread PLC
Location: Manchester
Project description: Extensive refurbishment of Premier Inn
Contract value: £1.25 million
Length of work: July - January

As part of our major refurbishment and maintenance contract with Whitbread PLC, we have refurbished all bedrooms and bathrooms in the prominent/flagship/landmark MEN Arena Printworks Premier Inn.

Working in a live hospitality environment, our multi-trade team ensured the work did not disrupt guests staying in this busy hotel, which is located near Manchester city centre. The hotel’s daily running remained unaffected throughout the refurbishment, so it was business as usual for our long-term partner, Whitbread.

Our skilled team stripped out en-suite bedrooms on one floor of the building at a time, working to a 12-day completion deadline per floor. We replastered and fully repainted each room, installed new doors, carpets, ventilation systems, light fittings and furniture, helping to ensure guests feel brilliant through a great night’s sleep.

The rejuvenated rooms now echo Premier Inn’s contemporary, striking branding and adhere to the standard design seen in the chain’s hotels nationwide.

In each en suite bathroom, the Novus team completely stripped out old suites, retiled walls and installed new flooring, light fittings and brand new suites to fully refresh the facilities for guests.

Working in partnership with the hotel was intrinsic to the success of this project and we met daily with Premier Inn representatives to discuss any issues, which we acted on immediately. Logistically, we carefully managed our deliveries so we did not affect the running of the hotel and its own daily deliveries.

Steve Hickley, hotel manager, said during the work: “It’s been a really positive experience; it’s a really old building, built in 1969, so it’s had its challenges. The objective was to try and ensure that guests couldn’t see that there was any building work going on and the feedback from guests was that they weren’t aware that work was being carried out.

“ The finished product is outstanding. This is one of the flagship hotels in Manchester city centre so it’s really exciting to see all the work completed.”

Naomi Clark, operations manager at the hotel, said: “The work is brilliant. If you go from the rooms that were to the rooms that we have now, it’s amazing, it’s such a difference.”
