Location: Derby
Project description: Commercial dilapidation work
Contact value: £83,000
Contract length: Six weeks

When high street clothing group Next moved out of its store on St Peter’s Street in Derby, we were contracted to completely return the outlet to its original configuration, before it was handed back to the landlord.

Next had adapted the store to be consumerfriendly and in line with its famous branding, so during a six-week period our team of 10 ripped out all the new features the firm had installed, both internally and externally.

We utilised our broad skill-set across multiple trades, working to flat plans drawn up two decades earlier. Our work included:
Removing electrical work installed by Next
Ripping out staircases and customer
changing rooms
Removing suspended ceilings
Additional internal work carried out by our skilled tradespeople included the removal and installation of plumbing, the laying of new flooring and the refreshment of both plastering and paint work.
Externally, our team sandblasted the front elevation, painted woodwork and part-renewed roofing work to return the outside of the building to its former condition. Where Next had blocked off windows on the rear elevation, the Novus team removed the brickwork and installed new glazing systems.
The work was completed to deadline and the property was handed back to the landlord in its previous condition, on time.
David Aldred, operations manager at Novus, said: “This contract gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our versatility and our ability to complete multi-trade work to a very high standard in a tight time scale.
“We completely restored the premises to the state it was in 20 years ago, providing excellent customer service and the highest quality workmanship while completing the work in the agreed time frame and to budget.”
