Contract Value: £1.3 million
Duration: 7 months
Location: Lichfield
Project Description: External Refurbishment including forming a pitched roof

After an 11-year relationship, Bromford Group displayed their confidence in our workforce and infrastructure when they contracted us for an external refurbishment to two 8-storey blocks of flats including managing their directly-employed contractors.
David Garrick Gardens provides sheltered accommodation for people over 55 years of age with a disability or support need.
We installed pitched roof systems to the previously flat roofs of Garrick House and Boswell House. The lightweight steel frame, metal tile and associated aluminium rainwater goods will stop water ingress, which was a reoccurring problem due to concrete deficiencies and leaks.
The thermal value of the buildings have been dramatically improved due to the upgrades to the loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and window renewal, benefitting residents with reduced heating bills. These improvements along with new air filtering and extraction units will contribute to a healthier living environment. After considerable concrete repairs were carried out, the masonry was redecorated improving
the general appearance of the buildings.
Structural engineers advised Novus to install a solid base around the perimeter of each block to ensure the surface was sufficient for the large scaffold. The steel lengths were reduced in size and our supply chain manufactured sectional windows rather than complete casements to accommodate for the restricted ground space. This restricted ground space also affected the selection of an appropriate man and goods hoist.
Training was continuously delivered to ensure the maximum health and safety standard. Whilst carrying out these works we were awarded National Federation of Roofing Contractors status and they commended our site for ‘Excellence in Health and Safety’.
To ensure residents were aware of all the work being carried out to their living environment our social and community officer held regular coffee mornings, where questions or concerns could be raised and provided reassurance.
The elderly resident in charge of waste collection for the scheme is a valued member of the local community. We donated a hi-vis vest and hard hat to him to ensure he is recognised and remains safe whilst carrying out his work .
