Supporting the community with Milton Parish Centre refurbishment

Our team in Stoke-on-Trent has helped to breathe new life into Milton Parish Centre with refurbishment works designed to improve the experience of the local community who use the facility.

Standing at the heart of its community, Milton Parish Centre plays a vital role in bringing people together. That’s why, when our Stoke-on-Trent team heard that the community hub was in need of some refurbishment works, they were keen to get involved and set about delivering a programme of refurbishment works.

With the works centred around refurbishing the male, female and accessible WCs, alongside corridors and finishing works, the team would need to work around the day-to-day requirements of the community and deliver solutions that will stand the test of time.

The project

The existing toilets at Milton Parish Centre were in need of a comprehensive upgrade to provide facilities better suited to the needs of those using them. Going beyond straightforward repairs, our team installed new toilets, basins and hand dryers, in addition to baby changing facilities.

Alongside the WC refurbishments, the team worked to make improvements to the corridors within the Parish Centre, equipping the community space with a brighter welcome to the building, with new flooring and fresh painting and decoration transforming the space for visitors.

While our refurbishment works focused on a relatively small part of the building, their impact will have a tangible impact on those who use the building regularly.

Getting the details right

Naturally, our work in refurbishing various types of buildings meant our team was familiar with the specific requirements of this project – balancing hard wearing surfaces with aesthetics, speed of delivery with quality of finish, and accommodating functionality alongside project execution. In short, the project needed to deliver a finish that looks great, has the durability to last for years, and which could be delivered seamlessly.

Making the right decisions at installation means the work we’ve delivered for Milton Parish Centre won’t only benefit the build and its users in the immediate future, but for many years to come. This longevity – which comes from balancing materials with installation quality – will allow the facility to be a central pillar for the community for the long-term.

But it’s not all about the future. Even during our works, we had to put the community at the centre by carefully planning works to keep disruption to a minimum. This meant that, while works were focussed on the WC refurbishment, the remainder of the building could function as normal to deliver relied-on community services.

Getting the details and execution right is only possible through having a clear understanding of what’s required of the building, alongside the materials and skills to deliver – and that’s something the Novus team are specialists in.

A lasting impact

Our work to transform the facilities at Milton Parish Centre will play an important role for the future – not just for the building, but crucially, for the people that use it and the services provided there.

Ultimately, that’s what all of our work is about – getting everything just right for the people it impacts. So, while our work in Stoke-on-Trent has been small in scale, its impact has genuine, long-lasting meaning. And that’s exactly the sort of impact we strive to deliver through our social impact work, which is typically delivered alongside other projects in the area.

Local Councillors, Dave Evans, Duncan Walker and Carl Edwards, praised the team’s approach, saying:

“Novus has done an amazing job. They were extremely considerate contractors in the way they worked with the church and the wider community. The team was very flexible, working around weddings and funerals and tailoring the works to accommodate everyone. Their approach made a real difference and was greatly appreciated.”

Diane Herbert, from Milton Parish, added:

“The new facilities look amazing. The Milton area doesn’t have many places where the community can hold events and come together, so these improvements will encourage more people to use the hall.

“Thank you so much to Novus. You and your team have made such a difference to the hall, and we are incredibly grateful.”
