Sophie Seddon’s Top Podcasts
Are you stuck for ideas of what you can do in lockdown? Why not listen to a podcast…Whether it’s to have a good laugh or be inspired in your career take some time for yourself! To help you on your podcast search, Sophie Seddon, People & Culture Director has shared her current top podcasts!
Work Like a Woman by Mary Portas
I love this podcast! It’s a real insight into what companies are doing to improve their equality and diversity and how you can be your true authentic self! I particularly like this episode where the CEO of Greggs discusses his approach to becoming a forward-thinking employer!
Tribe of Mentors, hosted by Tim Ferriss
Tribe of mentors is the podcast version of the book written and hosted by Time Ferriss. Tim Ferriss is a bestselling author known for ‘The four-hour week’ and ‘The tool of titans’. Tribe of mentors asks the same 11 questions to the elite of the sports, tv, business and entrepreneurs of this world! It’s so interesting the similarities between the best of the best and how they answer the questions but also the variety of the people and paths they have taken in their lives and careers. This episode I think is a great one…Bear Grylls what a guy!
Serial
This is one of my favourite podcasts of all time (series one) I listened to it on my long commutes home from the office. But we don’t have that problem (or luxury…I will never complain about the M6 again) at the moment but I’m sure lots of you have some spare time…trust me if you listen to one episode you will be hooked! I don’t want to give anything away but it’s a true-crime story about a young man in America who was committed for murder. You decide if it is a terrible miscarriage of justice or absolutely the right thing to do to throw him behind bars!
Happy Place
Happy Place is a ground-breaking podcast exploring mental health. Fearne Cotton who has struggled with her own mental health interviews lots of different celebrities on their challenges and coping mechanisms. It is fascinating, honest, insightful and might just give you a helping hand at this difficult time. Scroll through the list of celebs and take your pick! They are all good!
Ted Business
TED talks are FANTASTIC. Simple, impactful and full of learns we can all take on board and implement into our own lives in some shape. TED talks cover every topic you can think of and a lot that you couldn’t even imagine but end up blowing your mind anyhow! I particularly enjoy listening to the TED business talks and have often implemented ideas I have “borrowed” from TED into Novus! I wonder if you can guess which ones they might be! I have shone a light on this particular episode because I love questioning the status quo particularly looking at how we view stereotypes. Our workforce will be different in the future but how we interact with each other and get the maximum out of each one of us is so important. Take a listen and enjoy!
My Dad Wrote a Porno
I questioned whether I should add this into my top podcasts, but it would be doing an injustice to podcasting if I didn’t! It’s not for the faint-hearted but I promise you, you will laugh until you cry and will put a smile on your face if nothing else! There are hours of episodes here but start at the beginning and a few episodes in try and convince me you don’t love Belinda Blinks!
