HOW NOVUS IS INVESTING IN OUR PLANET – WORLD EARTH DAY 2022

The theme of this year’s World Earth Day is ‘Invest In our Planet’, calling for businesses to shift towards sustainable practices. We’re proud of our commitments in protecting the planet, through our many business activities including tree planting, garden makeovers, setting up reuse areas as part of our community waste days and more! Here are a few things we’ve been up to…
Supply Chain Sustainability School
As part of our continual improvement plan and environmental commitments to upskill our staff we have re-engaged with The Supply Chain Sustainability School and currently hold silver membership status. The school offers free access to sustainable learning opportunities and a wide range of resources for Novus employees. This helps us deliver a more sustainable environment, supporting our ambitious targets.
Paint can recycling
One of our eight environmental commitments is to increase the number of paint cans recycled each year. Working in partnership with our suppliers, we’ve already recycled over 10,000 paint cans in 2021 and we’re on track to beat this by the end of 2022!
Offsetting our emissions with fuel giant Shell
In November last year, we signed a new agreement with fuel giant Shell to offset our carbon emissions to become carbon neutral. The contract required all our fleet drivers to be provided with fuel cards, helping to drastically cut the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Developed exclusively by Shell scientists, FuelSave Diesel reduces black smoke significantly, meaning less burnt fuel is being emitted from the exhaust of vehicles. From this we are proud to have removed 620 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere already, helping our company’s fleet transition to a lower emission future and improving the air quality of local communities and wildlife.
Reduce, reuse and recycle
The initiative, reduce, reuse and recycle, is at the heart of our environmental commitments and is carried out by all staff here at Novus. By doing this we have diverted 95% of our project waste from landfill, helping to conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy.

Introducing our Apprentice of the Year: Lily Davies
This week is National Apprenticeship Week, so we’re shining the spotlight on one of Novus’ true rising stars – and recent winner of our Apprentice of the Year’ trophy at the Novus Awards – Lily Davies, who is working with us as a Junior Bid Writer.
We asked Lily to tell us about her journey so far, and her aspirations for the future – and what she would tell people considering beginning their own apprenticeship journey in our sector.
