Doing Business Responsibly: Our Commitment to Social Value

Novus is a national business built on family values thanks to our rich 128-year history within the Seddon family. Everything we do is guided by these core principles, and our people-centric legacy has played an important role in our success over the years.
Doing business responsibly
Operating with family values at our heart ensures we’re able to create an environment where people can live, work and thrive, and we integrate environmental, economic and social considerations into all our strategic decision making. Our commitment to doing business responsibly extends to giving back to the communities we work in across Great Britain, and social value underpins all of the work we do.
2024 in numbers
Through our commitment to social value, in 2024 we:
- Delivered £3 million of social value impact
- Changed 3,584 lives through social value contributions
- Took part in more than 200 initiatives
- Donated £140,000 to worthy causes
- Supported 61 projects through food bank appeals and our ‘environmental heroes’ campaign
- Supported our colleagues across the business taking part in 21 charity challenges, collectively raising more than £28,000
- Volunteered over 1,000 hours to deserving causes
We also continued our partnership with The Lighthouse Charity, which is the only charity that is fully dedicated to the physical, emotional and financial wellbeing of those working in construction and their families.
What’s more, we joined forces with CRADLE CIC in 2024. The charity supports those experiencing pregnancy loss through working directly with the NHS to deliver services and pathways of support for patients, as well as services for healthcare professionals including trainee doctors and nurses.
Looking ahead
We’re determined to continue to support deserving causes across the communities we work in this year. So far, in the first quarter of the year, we’ve:
- Delivered £900,000 of social value impact
- Changed 350 lives through social value contributions
- Taken part in more than 21 initiatives, with 35 more currently being planned
- Donated £44,200 to worthy causes
- Launched our Easter food bank appeal
- Supported colleagues across the business taking part in charity challenges, collectively raising £7,185
- Volunteered over 100 hours to deserving causes
- Achieved Business in the Community (BITC) Responsible Business Accreditation
We’re proud to have already had a tangible impact across the communities we work in across Great Britain, from providing £40,000 of support to charity The Ridge in Dunbar for its new home to hosting a career day at our University of Manchester site, and we’re excited to continue making a difference throughout the rest of 2025.
