Get it RightMatt Fradley is an enthusiastic person who is very conscientious when carrying out his daily duties as a Site Manager. Matt looks after a busy site where he is constructing 10 houses, 6 apartments and 6 bungalows including all drainage and external works. There are a number of operatives, who have to be organised on a daily basis therefore communication and planning is the key to run a safe and efficient site. Matt is a friendly person with a good sense of humour and gets along with everyone. In the workplace he is proactive and eager to progress. He always complete his sites on programme if not before.
Get it RightSince being made the sole QS for the Liverpool office Michael has shown great maturity for such a young man with such a big responsibility of running the financials of a 4-million-pound turnover office. Not only has Michael held a firm grip on the commercials targets, set out for the office, he also contributed to securing over half a million pounds worth of business. The profit return for the office has been exceptional. His overall commitment to getting it right, being responsible have really impressed so far this year and he is defiantly one for the future.
Be ResponsibleJordan has been working with vulnerable residents on the SAHA contract at Booth Close, Nottingham. While working on this contract, Jordan has shown exceptional empathy with the residents who have had a variety of personal challenges. He assisted all the residents throughout the project, answering all the questions and installing gas central heating to their homes, his approach has enhanced the amount of installations we have managed to carry out on the scheme. Jordan has also helped one vulnerable resident to clear their home of clutter to allow the works to be carried out.
Get it RightUrsula has worked for Novus for over 5 years and during that period has consistently demonstrated her commitment and determinations to achieving the best possible result on the PPQ and tender submission that she undertakes - to the mutual benefit of the team, operations and wider business. She is a single-minded in the pursuit of detailed, accurate information to support the quality responses that she produces, and her determined and diligent approach has been proven to yield positive results. This is evidenced by her exceptional success rate for quality submissions, which is currently in excess of 95%!
NurtureAfter promotion from site manager to project manager in January 2016, Rob has excelled at delivering projects in 2016. He consistently delivered rooms on time and below the national average snags per room, which we use to determine the quality of rooms. He has the best overall handover KPIâ€™s in the year. Rob has made huge strides this year in client relationships and off the back of that has meant that Whitbread has offered more work to Novus over competitors. In addition to our duty of care to each other we have a real commitment to the value of developing people and building successful relationships. We believe that everybody should demonstrate a focus on personal and professional growth to drive success, Rob achieves this with clients and his team on an ongoing basis.
Get it RightLiam is a most enthusiastic, well-mannered, smartly dressed professional young man. He has an aptitude for detail and very much takes ownership of all issues, ensuring that they are brought to a successful conclusion. He is developing his own skills and knowledge base both on and off site and is attending college to further his academic career, spending much of his own time to fulfil the educational requirements. Liam is a valued and well liked team player who goes the extra mile whenever required. His dedication and hard work produces results and his developing client facing skills are paying dividends to all.
Get It RightLee has always been willing to work in and out of hours to support the team. He is polite and adheres to processes at work. Lee is a very reliable operative who is liked by our clients within the Region. Lee was a supporting Supervisor on the MOD Carillion Amey Kitchen works in Plymouth and was Site Supervisor at UPP Plymouth for the main summer works in 2016. Site were visited by the Directors and Lee managed all the H&S and associated processes to keep the sites safe and free from Riddorâ€™s. Over Â£1,000,000.00 of works were carried out without incident. Works at UPP involved six to seven storey building with working at heights, a main risk consideration.

Steve acts with professionalism and does what he says he going to do or asked to do. He takes ownership of his work and he takes accountability for it.

She has helped a lot by noticing numerous over charged invoices and making sure we getting credits back on to our system. Renee is a valuable member of our team and she is always willing to go extra mile for the others.
Be ResponisbleEver since Helen started working for Southampton office all the processes dramatically improved - communications with sites, problem invoice workbench, query log. All this helped offices to be run more efficiently. Helen is responsible and always strives to make sure things are done correctly. She is looking after our new part time Administrator training her to support the office. She is very driven individual and takes her responsibilities seriously. She has a â€˜can doâ€™ attitude, gets on with everyone and is always happy to help.
Embrace ChangeMike started working for Burton office with an aspiration to become a Site Manager. With help and support of all the office employees he gained a lot of knowledge of various trades which helped him to achieve his goal. He is very motivated, hardworking and did a lot of out of hours studying to achieve this position. Mike is excellent example of dedicated and committed employee, as he is willing to listen and learn from others and takes this into his daily challenges to enhance the performance of himself and others.
Work TogetherScott has been assigned to supervise varied projects with his newly formed team of operatives. He built great relationships within the team and the result s of his works is evidence of this, as he is a great motivator. Scott has also shown a great responsibility in his position by taking on the mentoring of one of the new apprentices. Building relationships has been one of the greatest areas where Scott demonstrated excellence this year, not only writhing the employees but also with the clients. This has resulted in repeat business and excellent feedback.
Work TogetherWayne is a valuable employee of the Stoke office. He is an integral part of the Aspire contract overseeing 20 operatives over 4 to 5 projects. He is great with all the costumers and staff members and would never hesitate to go an 'extra mile' for anyone.
Be ResponsibleAdrian is a dedicated, conscientious and hard working person. He runs a motivated and committed team. Adrian consistently hits the targets set by the clients and delivers a great quality of works.
Embrace ChangeNeal started work for Novus through the agency, but was taken on as a direct employee after demonstrating an excellent work ethic. He is always on site working before anyone arrives, he runs two jobs at the same time within a couple of miles apart and looks after them to the highest standard. Neal hasnâ€™t had a dayâ€™s sick in two years, showing how committed he is to his job. He is always up for a new challenge demonstrating a proactive, forward thinking approach.
NurtureNeil is a valued member of the team who is hardworking, professional and always gives 100% in all duties performed meanwhile delivering works with an excellent standard. He managed to secure additional works for the office as well as nurture existing relationships with our key clients.
Be ResponisbleDeclan has only worked for Thetford office for a short period of time, but he already has demonstrated a great working spirit with colleagues and costumers. His Collage reports are good and he is a great example of how to be responsible at a young age.
Get it rightKaty joined East Midlands office as a Branch Administrator after a number of years working as a receptionist in Stoke Head Office. She took in to new role very well and within no time become a valuable member of the team. She is hard working, conscientious and ensures that each of the tasks /processes she learns is implemented and delivered correctly whilst maintaining a high level of standard in a very busy office environment. Katy is a very positive team member who plays a huge role in making the office a pleasant place to work at.
Work TogetherPhil is a site Supervisor/Manager for a Yorkshire Housing. He will always go out of his way to go the extra mile for all the clients and tenants. Phil has been working on the Yorkshire Housing contract for some time now and has built and maintained a good relationship with everyone. Yorkshire Housing are so pleased they have extended the contract with us which is a great accomplishment. There have been some difficult tenants that Phil has had to deal with along the way and he always does everything he possibly can to ensure that they are happy with the end result.
Embrace ChangePhillip is hard working individual who is always goes above and beyond his role. Recently Phillip has undertaken project managing two new clients contracts, University of Teeside and Embrace Group, alongside his duties as a Quantity Surveyor. Both were completed successfully, on time, within the budget and we had great feedback from the clients regarding the workmanship and costumer service that Phillip has provided. This was something new to Phillip to project manage whilst carrying out his normal duties, but he took a challenge without a hesitation which is a testament to his commitment to Novus.
Get it RightMichelle is an extremely hard working individual who strives for perfection, she has a positive outlook on things, even when this arenâ€™t going right. Michelle has the responsibility for the day to day running of the Bathgateâ€™s office Helpdesk. She continuously keeps all the management team & clients up to date and they all have acknowledged this.
Be ResponsibleAmber is always happy to help and will strive to provide the best service to the business. She is hard working and an asset to the Bathgate office operation. She takes ownership of the tasks and ensures they get completed and carried out accurately. Amber is currently mentoring an apprentice to become an administrator and she works well within the whole team.
Working TogetherherGary started working for Novus in 1999 as an Apprentice joiner. Through his seventeen years of service he progressed to his current role as a Projects Manager at University of Manchester. Gary is Easy going, reliable and always willing to go an extra mile. These qualities helped him to develop a unique relationship with the University of Manchester project managers and senior members of staff. Gary is often asked for his opinion the best way to resolve issues within their allocated budget. This â€œWorking Togetherâ€ ethos has ensured that a substantial amount of work is allocated to Novus rather than going out to competitive Mini Tender.
Embrace ChangeJess has played a key part in this whole moving offices process. Her involvement in this big milestone for Novus is just one example of how she delivers in her role all the time. This as well as stepping up the mark and managing the marketing department while Sophie has been off on maternity.
Work TogetherJenny has an excellent attitude towards collaborative working and congruence â€“ embracing opportunities to engage with operational and support service colleagues with enthusiasm and commitment to the task at hand. Since her return to the business Jenny has been regionally aligned to the Central West region, working predominantly with Andy Woodhouse and his Operations Managers. She has successfully forged excellent relationships over the past year and her presence in the regional offices and open communication with her colleagues has proven to be highly productive with successes including Birmingham City University - Estates Framework, Midland Heart â€“ Office Refurbishment, and WM Housing - Cyclical Paint & Pre Paint Repairs to name but a few. She also has a strong relationship with her Bid Team colleagues, willingly sharing information, good practice and assisting wherever she is able. Jenny is a warm and friendly individual with an unrelentingly positive attitude and a strong work ethic. She embraces every new task and opportunity with enthusiasm, even in times of stress and is very reliable â€“ a â€˜safe pair of handsâ€™ who can be trusted to see a task through to successful completion. She is driven by achievement, relishes feedback on performance and willingly contributes her thoughts and ideas for improvement during discussion. I am optimistic that she will eventually progress within the business and adopt a greater level of responsibility.
Embrace ChangeIn his first full year Andy has put in an excellent performance v budget and leads the way in the sales team at the half year. He works well with his SOM & Operations Manager and gets regular positive feedback from all of them. Coming from outside our industry, Andy had made a conscious and determined effort to develop his understanding of the sectors that he knew least about - this is illustrated by the enquiries that he brings to the business from these sectors. Andy is a team player and shows great persistence in growing the business through both existing & new clients. What you see is what you get with Andy â€“ a determined client and sales focused individual.
Work TogetherThe team and Vince are in their sixth extended year with Plymouth Community Homes working on major repainting and UPVC replacement works. Supervisor Vincent Inniss who joined the company as a Painter & Decorator in July 2009 leads the painting and power washing team on site. Vincent has worked on the project since July 2010 when the contract commenced. Vince is a key member of the team, he leads by example, works well in a team and has the respect of both the Novus team and our client. Vince always delivers the work to the highest of standards and does this in a manner that is professional and respectful.
Get it RightWayne is delivering the Hanover Kitchen & Bathroom framework out for the Southampton Office and the client has provided very positive feedback in terms of his positive approach to undertaking the works, managing the clientâ€™s expectations as well as that of residents, delivering on time and to budget. This is made more prominent by the negative view Hanoverâ€™s south region had of Novus prior to works commencing, and because of Wayne this view has now changed to a positive one. Wayne clearly is passionate about whatever he is doing and is not fazed by a challenge, this is demonstrated by the way he could sense an initial hostility to the works he was about to undertake and made it his endeavour to ensure the works were delivered meeting all expectations. He takes full ownership of what he is required to do, and will ensure that the expectations of the business are met.
Get it RightDan has been involved in a lot of our projects over the summer when we were extremely busy showing that he is a very good team player. He has showed very good organisational skills having to oversee project from east to west London and some outside the M25 even. The delivery of the projects returned some very good comments from the clients as the standards were very high.
Embrace ChangeArron has been with Novus since April 2015 and in this time has progressed from working as a multi-skilled tradesman within part of a busy team to the Site Manager responsible for this team demonstrating the companies â€˜promote withinâ€™ culture. Arron demonstrates his ability to deliver safely on site and will not sacrifice the H&SW of staff or public for quick financial gains and instead promotes and demonstrates safe working practice at all stages of our projects. Arron has scored 100% in his last two H&S Audits but still goes the extra mile to improve his sites and safeguard Novus and its staff. Arron has his finger on the pulse and always knows what is going on around our sites and office
Get it RightAngela is totally focussed and dedicated to achieving the best results possible. She takes full ownership of issues and drives our supply chain to ensure they deliver. She is totally enthusiastic and is very much appreciated and admired by all who work with her. She consistently goes the extra mile and very much nurtures a team culture at every opportunity. She is a great asset to the business and her enthusiasm, positive attitude and individual style is pleasure to work with.

He started as painter and has worked his way up (foreman, site manager, contracts manager, and now operations manager). His strategic operations manager, Steve Colclough, said: "He one of the hardest working guys I know, doesnâ€™t get phased by a challenge, he gets stuck in and gets the job done. His team respect him because he is fair, flexible while being firm at the same time. Above all he is an honest guy and fully deserves this acknowledgement."
Be ResponsibleChris puts 100% into everything he does. His attitude and commitment is second to none. The work at the Burton office is varied and challenging and Chris rises to every challenge that is put his way. Not only has Chris delivered at an operational level, he has also played his part in the wider community. Chris has been involved in numerous Community Projects such as the 2016 Apprentice Challenge, a Sports Club refurbishment and more recently helping build a school bank.
What NextDarren has overseen a 20% growth in turnover at Birmingham office during 2016. He holds the respect of all of his subordinates and has instilled an excellent morale and good working relationship into an ever increasing workforce of staff, supervisors and workforce. Darren leads by example and has a positive, can do, attitude which transmits through to the rest of his team producing excellent commercial results. Darren has a friendly but professional relationship with his clients and the volume of repeat business generated at Birmingham is testament to how well Darren and his staff work with their clients to meet shared contract objectives.
Get it RightIdwal has now been on the K&B works in Wrexham for three years and continues to provide handovers weekly without fail, on this high turnaround of five a week and high pressured contract hasnâ€™t faulted at all and he needs recognition for this. He is very well mannered and always shows great communication skills with the tenants and clients, he is very dedicated to his role and is always very helpful on community projects
Get it RightDale has dug in and worked hard throughout the summer despite some big contract wins and strict timescales. He has managed the commercials independently over the last 4 monthsâ€™ despite consecutively turning over circa Â£400k per month. His time management and will to make the summer a profitable time has been infectious throughout the office.
Get it RightRob is a key member of the team, as Project Manager he plays a key role in helping Novus deliver on a number of key clients. He gets it right all the time and goes about how he does things in a professional manner. He works well in the Thetford team, leading by example and involving others as well as continuously going above and beyond.
Be AuthenticSteve Lincoln, a QS at the Novus York Office has been acknowledged with an Excellence Award for the Novus Value, 'Be Authentic' Steve took on the maintenance role side of things at the York office and has played a key part in the success of this area of works. His line manager commented; he is always keen to learn and has learnt a lot about maintenance which has developed his skills. He has also passed this knowledge on to others, and Steve also joined the scholarship scheme where he has taken on many tasks, some of which he would have not normally done. This has made him a more confident person in his job role. Steve is always willing to help others and when he has targets he always ensures he meets the targets even if this means starting early or finishing late.
Be ResponsibleTerri has gone out of her way and above the call of her role by assisting elderly residents with toilet needs, packing goods up for a heavily pregnant tenant for a kitchen replacement to go ahead. Terri has demonstrated that she is going the extra mile and being authentic and responsible to our clients end users. Head of Social Value, Kevin Rhone would reinforce this, Terri has hit the ground running in her role and is a valuable member of the team.
Working TogetherDonna is one of our QSâ€™s based in the Bathgate Office, Donna always demonstrates good knowledge of the business objectives, encouraging team working and communication. Donna never refuses to help out and is always on hand to assist in any situation. She will take time to inform new staff of what working for NOVUS is about and the Values. Always willing to work with staff and customers to reach the best way forward.
Get it RightMichelle is someone who is one of the best examples that we have of living the NOVUS values every day, nothing is too much trouble and the respect that she has from all staff in Scotland and all our customers that comes in to contact with her is outstanding. During resent times when we have lost Key members of staff Michelle has been one of the key people that has keep the team on site and on the help desk focused in counting to deliver to the customers. She is so passionate about her KPIs and see the smallest failed as not actable and this only show NOVUS in a good light.

Trista has a strong work ethic which affects how she works and the amount of work she does. Because Trista takes great pride in her work she feels personally responsible for her job performance, she shows up before time, puts in her best effort and completes projects to the best of her ability.

Get it RightPaul Moss has been a shining star for the Liverpool office this year. He set high targets at the beginning of the year and with the hard work and â€˜can doâ€™ attitude he is more than set to achieve them. Paulâ€™s attitude has always been first class and representative of the Novus way and his professionalism with others has been second to none.
Embrace ChangeMitch has worked for us for many years and is passionate about his role and his team and the contracts he works on. He tries to find the best route in completing his contracts with an eye on the finances at all times. Mitch is known for being very good with our clients and likes to work closely with them with a view of securing any future opportunities for the business. Within our Whitbread office he is well respected because he is helpful and considerate to others. Mitch is prepared to â€œjump inâ€ to help get things done.
Embrace ChangeMick has shown a willing and can-do attitude on the Bromford contract, upskilling himself to be able to carry out pre-paint repairs to allow us to progress our works for the client with convenience rather than subcontract this element out. As a decorator by trade, he and the rest of the gang can then continue forward with the works in hand without disruption and keeping a smooth running programme. Within the gang they consistently meet or better targets on a difficult contract and also self-supervise on smaller works, outlying properties and Mick also steps up to share Supervisory tasks when his line manager is not on site or away from the business.
Working TogetherMichelle is always willing to help others and go the extra mile. This has been demonstrated by being asked to go to the Derby office to assist with the admin procedures to ensure that the admin get a better understanding of what is required. Michelle didnâ€™t hesitate to say yes to assisting the Derby office.
Be ResponsibleMark (or Tomo) as he is affectionately known throughout the workforce is a consistently high performer in his role as a painter and decorator for the East Midlands office. The quality of Markâ€™s work is always a high standard and Mark will always assist other trades to push projects along. Mark is professional and welcoming in the way he engages with customers and always upholds the Novus way.
Get it RightLisaâ€™s addition to the Marketing Department recently has seen a great improvement in terms of quality, appearance and standard of written material that is produced for the business. Lisa has done very well and continues to add value to the department and business as a whole. Lisaâ€™s team spirit and willingness to assist all areas of the business should not be unrecognised.
Be ResponsibleJaneâ€™s role was a new role to the office (in respect of being a dedicated role for the office). Jane has helped our office raise our performance and deliver an even higher standard of service to our clients. This is not just about the role, it is about how Jane has joined a new team, worked extremely hard, won the respect of the whole team (and our clients). She is a very hard working, caring and passionate person and we would like to put her forward for the Novus value.
Working TogetherJake is being nominated for going that extra mile. During May 2016 Jake took a 10-day holiday to Mexico during which he took along his work laptop and gained access from IT in order to send over month end invoice certificates to be processed.
Be AuthenticHelen is hard working, supporting and always encourages everyone around her. The whole team at Southampton benefit from Helenâ€™s dedication as she brings the office together. Helen is professional and has the highest standards when it comes to completing tasks, Helenâ€™s key strength is her ability to work with everyone, helping the team work together by communicating openly, listening to everyone and most of all she encourages the whole office to produce quality work.
Working TogetherHarriot has the drive and ability which enables her to complete daily tasks with great ease and it also makes her an excellent team player. She is also very authentic and acts with pure respect and professionalism for Novus.
NurtureGary McArthur is a Senior Contracts Manager at our York office. Gary was nominated by his team in recognition of his dedication and commitment over the many years he has worked for Novus. Gary is instrumental in helping to bind the Novus Team together with his â€˜can doâ€™ positive attitude.
Be ResponsibleGary is a hardworking, professional member of the team and manages his sites across the region to the highest of standards. He continually goes the extra mile and one example of this is he has been cooking to help a 93-year-old woman as part of Hanover contract. He saw her struggling so he took it off his own back to make her breakfast and dinner for the 9 days he was there! The client and resident were very impressed with his support and commented that is why they like working with Novus, because the Novus team understand that we are providing a service to people and it is not just about the repair or improvement works being carried out.
NurtureSince being promoted to Supervisor, Frankie has continued to demonstrate an excellent level of responsibility and a very strong work ethic through which he continues to build positive relationships with clients and staff. He also shows excellent leadership qualities to his team, particularly with apprentices ensuring that they fully understand their roles and responsibilities. Staff have also highlighted how approachable and helpful Frankie is. Frankie strives to ensure all work is completed correctly first time which has resulted in the contracts that he works on performing well financially and receive excellent feedback from clients.
Be ResponsibleEmma is a friendly and lively member of our team supporting a number of offices. She works closely with the Social & Community Team across the Regions, and with residents striving to make their lives as easy as possible whilst work is being carried out at their homes. Emma has been at the forefront of Customer Care and our Community activities for the last 5 years.
Be AuthenticDominic is a site manager who has been with the company about 7x years. He was employed initially as a Supervisor rising through the ranks to Supervisor and now Site Manager. Dominic showed excellent leadership and attention to detail during his site management of the UPP Partnering Programme, Tamar Bathroom Contract & the MOD Kitchen refurbishment project.
NurtureDean is a team player, who never says no to anything, he gives 110% to everything he does and always takes pride in his work. Dean is very versatile and assists in all aspects in the branch, from running jobs , meeting client and estimating , he is always very accommodating. He always takes responsibility in all his site and encourages his team to perform to their best abilities. With an aim to become contracts manager, he has a strong eye for detail and as a genuine supervisor, you always know where you stand with him.
Get it RightClaire has worked her way from Reception to the PA role for the Directors that she carries out now and the transition was seamless, Claire adopted a great aptitude to learn the new role and the way of working with each Director, since then Claire has become a valued part of the team, she is always very helpful and goes above and beyond her duties to ensure she is providing the best support to the Directors and the company as a whole. It is fair to say that Claire is a valued team player and one that is relied upon.
Get it RightColin is our Voids Supervisor for Manor and Melville Housing Association. He is tasked with identifying void works and providing this to the client. He controls all aspect of the void works from inception to completion, managing all operatives and materials, as well as labour and materials. Colin is constantly trying to improve processes to ensure that they are streamlined and maximising benefit all parties involved. Colin is gifted at face to face client negotiation and is able to communicate across many levels, these skills have enabled him to maintain a working partnership with both clients and colleagues.
Get It RightLindsey consistently delivers whatever is asked of her on time and with a can-do attitude and regularly offers help to anyone in need. She shows an obvious desire to do things to the best of her ability.Lindsey strikes a good balance of fun and professionalism as an integral member of the Finance Team. She has a strong work ethic, and will do whatever it takes to meet deadlines no matter what is thrown at her.
NurtureAngela is a key member of the Whitbread Project team, she is the mother hen who looks after everyone. The Whitbread Project office team is a young team and Angela takes them all under her wing to support, advise and guide them all when required. Pete is an around good employee, he is very passionate about his role and in particular very passionate about Health and Safety. This is not just about health and safety, he manages all his responsibilities to the highest of Standards, but it is for health and safety that the Burton team have been acknowledged on numerous occasions. For example winning the highest Audit scores in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 across the business. In Quarter 3 the Novus Burton Office also won a health and safety award for achieving the highest scores out of all our offices, achieving 99.6%.Pete's Operations Manager credited him with playing the lead role in this. But behind these headlines and achievements there is always an employee who plays a key role in this types of success and while Pete would credit the whole team with this, as the Ops Manager I can see the positive influence and the lead he has taken in these areas. As a multi skilled operative, Derek consistently works to a high level of professionalism and takes great pride in the work he is involved in. He shows good customer care when dealing with residents and has been praised by our clients in this area. One example of Derek's character was on one Saturday when he was called out; there was a sagging ceiling, there was a leak, he could have just repaired the leak and moved on, but he wanted to double check everything, so he went into the attic, this revealed a bigger problem that he also fixed. As a result the resident and client were very pleased.

Mark is Multi-Trade Operative, his colleagues and our clients are continually impressed with the quality of his work, one client even commented in relation to Mark that he was a 'one stop shop' and that he could carry out jobs from start to finish without the need to call in other trades causing delays, which is why customer satisfaction is so high on the jobs he works on. His line manager also commented; "Mark is valued member of the team, hard working, trustworthy, and continually goes the extra mile for our clients and their residents."

His line manager highlighted another example that summed up his character; "On the UPP Contract, there was a tight timescale to complete a job, Mark worked overtime and even helped with painting and cleaning to get the job done."

Being AuthenticDan was acknowledged for demonstrating 'The Novus Way' value 'Be Authentic' and 'Ensure your actions are sincere to earn the trust of others.' One of the key contracts Dan works on is the Poole Housing Kitchen Project. Dan continually receives positive feedback from the residents whose kitchen's he refurbishes. The client has also provided excellent feedback as a result of Dan's work ethic and communication. Dan's line manager commented; "Dan always gives his all, making sure the residents are happy with the works being carried out, and as our customers are key in this process, Dan goes above and beyond when dealing with any queries or concerns."
Be AuthenticJames was nominated for demonstrating 'The Novus Way' value 'Be Authentic'. James first came to Novus on work experience, then after a two year period he then joined Novus as an apprentice. He completed his 3 year apprenticeship in 2010; since then he has progressed from Painter and Decorator to a Supervisor. He continually goes the extra mile volunteering on all our community activities, this year alone taking part in Remembrance Day, Coffee Mornings and he was the driver who dropped off the food to the homeless charity. His Operations Manager, Dean commented â€œHe is a great role model and I am very proud to have seem him develop from a school leaver to climbing the ladder."

Ian has worked for the business for over 10 years. He started as a painter, and has been promoted to Contract Manager. He is hardworking, honest and a team player. One of the things he is most proud of is that over the years he has mentored many trainees and apprentices. One example of his dedication is when he was supporting a new apprentice, the apprentice was finding it tough, however Ian was credited with solely turning the situation around by going above and beyond and investing lots of his own time. The employee has since passed his apprenticeship and is now a full time trades person.

Michaella's dual role as Liverpool Office Administrator and Resident Liaison Officer requires her to not only support the office team but also support clients and customers as well. Her Operations Manager commented; "she consistently goes above and beyond in her role, providing support to the whole office and she is also is a great link with our clients and has carried out lots of community projects which have all helped build strong partnerships."

Gemma continually works cooperatively and enthusiastically within the East Midlands office team, supporting and encouraging others and making a full personal contribution. Employee SupportSimone was acknowledged with an Excellence Award because, not only does she play an important role within our HR team, but she is involved in advising management on all company procedures. Last year Simone became â€˜qualifiedâ€™ through the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development), and Simone has put many of her newly acquired skills into practice already, travelling to a number of different Novus offices to advise and support employees with a range of matters. She carries out all of the above while also dealing with many sensitive issues in a caring, sensitive and confidential manner, overall Simone is a great member of our team.
ProfessionalismMichelle was nominated by her team and won an Excellence Award for her continued professionalism in her role as an Administrator. Michelle in her role is always on hand to support any of the Bathgate office team and goes above and beyond on a regular basis. Even in challenging situations, Michelle always plays her part in making sure that our customers receive an excellent service. Her Strategic Operations Manager, Derek Ferguson commented that Michelle is a valued member of the team and her positive attitude is what he admires most.
Health and SafetyRob received an Excellence Award for the key role he has played in Novus' Target Zero campaign to raise the health and safety culture across the business. Director Alan Nixon is the Novus Property Solutions Board member that is responsible for health and safety commented that as business we continually strive to improve health and safety in the workplace. Rob is a key member of the health and safety committee which is made up of one employee per Novus region. The role of the health and safety committee is to lead on strategy, bring to the forum any issues or areas of improvement and promote excellence in safety in their region. We are proud of our safety record as a business and it is employees like Rob that ensure these standards are maintained.
Customer CareBilly Holland has been with the company for over 23years coming to Novus straight from School. His line manager commented that Right from the start he has been a very conscientious and hard worker. He very often buyâ€™s flowers or chocolates for the tenants of schemes when he finishes the job, or he will carry their shopping for them if he is around at the time and it is for these reasons that he continuously receives excellent customer and client feedback.

Some of the comments about Matt included him being hard working, reliable, and goes above and beyond in making sure the work he is involved in gets done to the highest of standards. One comment also mentioned that he is an all-round nice guy. Matt has also taken part in numerous charitable activities with Novus helping raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

Site ManagementMick was nominated by his team for his professionalism and dedication to his role. Every site Mick manages he puts 100% effort in to make sure the site functions as well as it can. No stone is left un turned, whether it is having a clean and tidy site, or ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are met. Mick is also a member of the Novus health and safety committee whose responsibility it is to raise the standards of safety across the business.
Health and SafetyRichard received an Excellence Award for the high standards that his sites have continually achieved in terms of health and safety, but Richard has also been responsible for the high customer service achievementâ€™s for the Premier Inn refurbishments in the North East, each project has achieved a very high score in terms of client feedback and are leading the way in customer satisfaction with premier Inn. His line manager commented that he continues to improve and nothing is too much trouble for him when approached by the client, and he continually goes above and beyond the call of duty. This is what the Excellence Awards are all about!
Client ServicePeter's character is one of determination to succeed which in turn helps others. Since joining the business, there were no illusions of what the office needed to achieve. He settled in well and picked up the rains of the role with ease. Results started to show within the first couple of months. He is always willing to help others. His team mates think highly of him. His line manager commented that he has a good sense of humour which is generally unheard of with a QS and gets on very well with all in Gateshead. Even when we were under a lot of pressure and at full capacity he agreed to take on additional roles. He is a great asset to the company and we need more like him.

Lewis has been promoted several times and is a great example of how if you invest in apprenticeships, then in the long run they more than pay for the time and investment into these roles. Long ServiceBev Collins joined the company on 14 March 1988. Currently she is the Accounts Section Controller, with significant accounting responsibilities including reconciling the bank accounts and fixed assets, as well as helping to process the monthly payroll. Bev is a dedicated, loyal, reliable and long serving employee. She undertakes any task she is assigned with enthusiasm and completes it to the very best of her ability. However, it isnâ€™t just her commitment to her work that warrants recognition. Bev is also an upbeat, approachable and friendly member of staff. It is people like Bev that keep the cogs of the organisation turning, but so often these people avoid the limelight, instead focusing on â€œjustâ€ getting the job done and having their heads down.

Glen took part in community challenge day to compete for this award, Glen worked extremely hard and impressed the community challenge project manager on the day of the event.

He attained the position of Foreman rising to Supervisor and now Site Manager for his commitment and ability to oversee this partnering contract. Martin represents the region as Health and Safety representative on the Novus Health and Safety committee and takes his role very seriously. His line manager, Mark Noad, Strategic Operations Manager commented; â€œI feel that Martinâ€™s professional attitude and passion makes him one of the key members of our team here in the South West Region and I feel he will go far in the business.â€
CharityLee works for systems development department and manages the core systems that help our business function day to day from invoicing to managing our supply chain. Lee has worked for Novus for many years working his way up through the business. Lee is well respected by all his work colleagues, who appreciate his professionalism when he is supporting them with I.T projects that they use, but donâ€™t understand. Lee is Novus through and through and involves himself in all social events and charitable activities. He recently came up with a charity project idea to collect old football shirts and donate them to South African children. Leeâ€™s idea has captured the imagination as he has featured in local press, the Stoke City F.C Match day program and has collected hundreds of donations.
Client ServiceAndy, who has been with Novus for more than six years, is very much a people person and clients and residents love him, says his line manager. Andy is known for always trying to help, working hard and generally being a team player. He is well respected by the clients he works with and prides himself on the strong relationships he has built. He goes above and beyond for these clients and often attends community events during weekends, employment days, fun days and sports days. This is why Andy has been acknowledged with a Novus Excellence Award.
Health & SafetyMark and his team at the Gateshead office received the highest health and safety audit score across the business during 2014 and it was for this reason the office received a health and safety award at the recent Novus Management Conference. Mark is receiving this Excellence Award as his team has credited him with strong leadership that resulted in the strong operational performance of the Gateshead office. Mark has been at Novus for over a year, gives his team confidence, and has helped to make dramatic improvements. He is a big believer in acknowledging members of his team when they do well.
MentoringDuring Steve's time at Novus, he has mentored many decorators and supervised many projects. He has always been good with the customers, and always goes above and beyond in the service he provides. One of his co-workers said: "He has the respect of everyone at the Northampton office as we all know you can give him a task and it will be completed." He has formed a good team of painters around him who also look up to him. Representing the UKJames has been working for Novus for just over a year, he joined as an apprentice painter and has come a long way in this time. Mike Demattia, our Novus Wrexham contracts manager, is his line manager and said he cannot speak more highly of him and that his attitude, work rate and willingness to learn are all first class. It was for all these reasonâ€™s that he was selected to represent the UK at the Uniep Legacy Event in the Netherlands. The Legacy Event involved a team of five painters and decorators from the UK and a further 50 painters and decorators from across Europe coming together to develop their skills and test the latest painting products at Akzo Nobelâ€™s Head Office. The Uniep team also took part in a charity project to refurbish a school. Mike thinks he will go far in this company.
Site ManagementJohn was nominated for an Excellence Award as he always delivers work to a very high standard. John presents himself in a professional manner, and has excellent communication with clients, tenants and colleagues. He is known for working extra hours as required to assist with the delivery of projects and takes great pride in his work. His line manager said: "He takes care of his van which is always immaculate inside and out and we have recognised this by giving John one of the new fleet which he was delighted with."
DedicationEmma has been nominated for a Novus Excellence Award because she is always willing to help, even when her workload is already too large to complete. One of her team said: "I have never heard her say no or complain about anything and she is very passionate about the company. Emma doesnâ€™t just come to work until 5pm, if it is still to be done she will take it home and even while on holiday still be willing to help her team in the office. Emma is a key employee providing support to numerous parts of the business. She is hard working and enthusiastic and very responsive to her peers. Emma is someone who has fulfilled a number of roles within the company, each one receiving 110% commitment from her, the latest being her transition from Bid Team Co-ordinator to CRM Quality Manager and lead of the Strategic Risk Analysis process. She has been the main contact point between the business and the Bid Team and has created strong rapport with everyone. Her positive attitude, and her total commitment to her role and the team she is a part of, make her worthy of this award."
Site ManagementSteve has been acknowledged with a Novus Excellence Award for his site management. His character is one of determination to succeed which in turn helps others. He is always willing to help others and his team think highly of him. His line manager said: "He has a good sense of humour which is generally unheard of with a QS and gets on very well with all in Gateshead. Even when we were under a lot of pressure and at full capacity he agreed to take on an additional role and has done that well. In general he is more than a QS. He project managed a refurbishment without being asked and brought this in well above budget. To sum it up he is a great asset to the company and we need more like him."
Client ServiceSean has worked for us for over 10 years and is passionate about his team and the contracts he runs. He tries to find the best route in completing his contracts with an eye on the finances at all times. Sean is known for being very good with our clients and likes to work closely with them with a view of securing any future opportunities for the business. Within our Romford office he is well respected because he is helpful and considerate to others. Sean is prepared to â€œjump inâ€ to help get things done. One example of how Sean is willing to go above and beyond - recently he spent many early and late evenings roaming the city of London in order to have the right information to complete a tender, demonstrating his commitment on the importance of getting this tender complete within a tight time frame.
Health & SafetyThe Novus Preston office recently received a Health and Safety Award for the most improved Health and Safety Audit score. Tony was put forward for these Awards not just for this achievement, but for his overall effort over his thirty year career within the business. He started as painter and has worked his way up (foreman, site manager, contracts manager, and now operations manager). His strategic operations manager, Steve Colclough, said: "He one of the hardest working guys I know, doesnâ€™t get phased by a challenge, he gets stuck in and gets the job done. His team respect him because he is fair, flexible while being firm at the same time. Above all he is an honest guy and fully deserves this acknowledgement."
Site ManagementKevin has been within the business for over fifteen years. He is a valued team player with a good sense of humour, having said that he takes his work very seriously and is very safety aware. His line manager said: "During his time on site on a key contract, we have not had any complaints regarding the works. This in itself tells you that he and his team are liaising and keeping the client and customers informed of all work-related activities. One example of how Kevin goes above and beyond; one of the customers had an accident (a fall), Kevin was in the vicinity and took charge. He called the emergency services, administered first aid and stayed with the lady - comforting her and reassuring her until the ambulance arrived."
Client ServiceNigel has seen his workload dramatically increase in recent times due to the success of the work he has been responsible for delivering. His team has doubled from six to twelve, and even through this increase he has still been able to maintain a happy client and happy customers. One of his team said: "He is one of the outstanding guys, he started with the business over 25 years ago as a subcontractor and was brought on board as he was the type of employee we wanted directly employed on our team. He started on the tools (wall papering, bricklaying, painting etc) and has risen to supervisor and now to contracts manager. He is always very hard working. He is known for being very loyal and getting the job done."
TrainingJackie has been acknowledged with this award for driving our training statistics up over the last 12 months. The training team's targets are to ensure that everyone working for Novus has achieved the competencies required for their role. So, for example, a labourer would require manual handling, ladders and steps and asbestos awareness etc. So far in 2014 we have achieved around 5000 training hours! A colleague of Jackie's said: "She is always flexible and understanding and has a great deal of knowledge about the company. She is always available twenty four hours a day, replying to messages when they come through rather than waiting until working hours."
Long ServiceGary started his career here in 1974 as an apprentice painter and decorator then went onto being a full time operative and then through to being a site foreman, which is what he is now. Gary has always been hard working and conscientious employee and will always give that little bit extra. He is a good role model, especially for our apprentices. As you can imagine over his long career he has been involved in training and mentoring many apprentices and has set the standard for all he comes in contact with to follow. Gary's operations manager, Nick Haigh, said: "It is employees like Gary that make this company the successful company we are. He is Novus through and through and I am proud to have him as part of our team at the York office."
Representing the UKApprentice Daniel has been with us for just over a year and is about to start his second year at Stoke on Trent College. He gets on with everyone and has a great attitude to work and college. His line manager said: "We have never had any problems with him, he just does the job, for such a young lad he has a great work ethic. I can see him having a long career with the company. It was for all these reasons that he was selected to represent the UK at the Uniep Legacy Event in the Netherlands. The Legacy Event involved a team of five painters and decorators from the UK and a further fifty painters and decorators from across Europe coming together to develop their skills and test the latest painting products at Akzo Nobelâ€™s Head Office and take part in a charity project to refurbish a school."
Customer ServiceMick is a senior contracts supervisor working out of our Romford office. He has worked for Novus for five years. Mick lives in social housing, so he feels he is in a unique position of being able to relate from a customer and contractor point of view when working on social housing contracts. Mick prides himself on quality of work and gives out his contact number for every job he works on, this means that he is always on top of things. One example of Mick going the extra mile was when a vulnerable elderly resident had a new kitchen fitted by Novus and was struggling to get her white goods installed. As Mick and his team had built the trust up with this resident, Mick and team not only collected, but fitted the appliances.
OperationalAt the Novus Management Conference, Carl won the operations manager of the year award. Carl has been at the Burton office for over 11 years, gaining promotion from contracts manager to operations manager within the last three years. Over the last three years the office has virtually doubled its office staff and turnover, moving into a new, larger fit-for-purpose premises, whilst continuing to be successful and profitable. Carl has developed a reliable, local team to deliver projects - similarly with suppliers. Carl has a willingness for his team to participate in out-of-hours sports and social activities, most recently sharing success by celebrating the award for operations performance for 2013 with a night out with his team.
Site ManagementAsh has worked for us for over 10 years. He has a can-do attitude on the Premier Inn refurbishment contract and receives excellent feedback on every site he manages. He is always smiling and willing to help any client. Ash is well respected by all who work with him, along with his peers. On a recent Premier Inn refurbishment Ash received eleven out of ten on his site scores due to his ability to give the client a first class service. Ash cares what the client and the general public think about Novus' reputation. Ash installs a â€œdo it right first timeâ€ on all sites - this is reflected in the projects Ash manages being consistently delivered on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to the client and general public.
EnvironmentalCraig goes above and beyond in his commitment to waste management and recycling on site. During 2014 Novus Wrexham have continued to dramatically improved their waste management processes. Craig manages a waste management station which helps Novusâ€™ site team segregate their waste from site. There are separate waste skips for cardboard, plastic, timber and mixed waste. As a result of this new set up the Wrexham contracts have improved their recycling levels by 30% to achieve 95%+. This has also resulted in waste costs being reduced by 40%. Craigâ€™s operations manager Jeremy Anderson commented: "To achieve the results we have takes a lot of work. Craig is giving a 110% to make sure we are environmentally friendly in terms of waste as we can be."
Unsung HeroDelise joined Novus some three years ago as catering assistant to the head office staff, to help the flow of staff in the central kitchen area and to provide buffet lunches for meetings. Since then, she has taken it upon herself to develop the role into somewhat of an assistant for all of the staff within our head office. Delise goes above and beyond in her role and is seen as somewhat the â€˜motherâ€™ figure to many people within the building. She is often seen taking matters into her own hands and sweeping the car park, clearing snow/ice and generally helping out with all matters no matter what the task. Her colleagues believe she deserves recognition for her â€˜get it done attitudeâ€™ and her eagerness to help and support others. She is an asset to Novus.
Long ServiceRandolph is one of our longest serving employees and has been employed within the business for nearly 40 years. He is described by his line manager as a first-class tradesman, who is nice guy, honest, hardworking and a great role model the younger employees. The experience that Randolph has it not only a valuable asset to the business, but also to the employees he works with. Randolph continually goes the extra mile in his role and one example of this was while working on a housing scheme. He noticed that a resident sat on a bench outside her house every day and Randolph could see it was looking a bit tired, so even though he was on a tight schedule to complete the contracted works, he spent his lunch time to repaint the bench and bring it back to its former glory.
PerformanceGed has worked for the business for over 20 years and has been a key player in the success of the projects team, and an important portal to some of our key clients. His bright and bubbly character is always refreshing to both site and office personnel. One of his colleagues said: "The projects team is lucky to have Ged's experience, and understanding of an ever changing industry. He has been vital to the success of the project team's achievements and we feel he fully deserves this acknowledgement." One example of Ged going above and beyond was when he gave up valuable family time to go to site when a flash flood jeopardised a wedding reception. Ged promptly organised the clean-up of the area to allow the reception to go ahead.
VolunteeringJohn has worked for Novus for over seven years, starting as a painter, then progressing to supervisor, then to contract agent. He is now a contract manager. He is a hard working employee who has the respect of everyone he works with. His team describe him as firm but fair, his line manager also described him as a person that gets the job done and gets the most out of his team. John was recently asked by our chairman, Stuart Seddon, to lead on a volunteer project involving over 20 employees. The aim of the project was to build a farm on the site of Thistley Hough school, which Novus is supporting through BITC's Business Class Programme. John rose to the task and delivered on this challenging project.
Going the extra mileWhile working on one of our key contracts, we experienced some problems on site which could have resulted in Novus not delivering on our commitments to our client. Kevin, who is a painting operative, took it upon himself to lead the rest of the painting team working on this contract. As a result, Kevin played a key role in not only completing the program of works smoothly, but ahead of time as well, while still meeting our high standards. Kevinâ€™s operations manager commented how impressed he was with Kevinâ€™s commitment and drive to complete this job to a high quality. This is just one example of why Kevin has been acknowledged with a Excellence Award,;he is a hardworking, professional, modest person who is well respected by all the team at our Bathgate office.
Client ServiceJimmy has been with Novus for 10 years, he is a site supervisor and a working supervisor. He started as an apprentice, and has had a number of promotions since. His line manager commented that he has a great personality and his team and clients think very highly of him. He also has a reputation for being organised right down to the final detail. As a working supervisor he is leading by example with his quality of work and sets the standards high for his site team to follow. Jimmy also goes above and beyond getting involved in many charity activities. This year he took part in a charity football match helping raise over Â£2000 and also completed a half marathon helping raise over Â£1000.
Quality of WorkRob's colleagues describe him as a brilliant guy, who gets on with the job - no matter what the problem he solves it, and he is a very proactive person. One example of how he goes above and beyond was on a difficult contract, that was going to involve lots of scaffolding and disruption to the residents. Rob took the lead and found a solution that was cost effective and kept all the residents happy, resulting in excellent customer feedback scores. On this scheme he taped every window of twenty flats, which he did not have to do, this is just one example of how he goes above and beyond in putting the client and customers first.
Site ManagementGary works for the Novus Manchester Office as a Site Manager. He is a very motivated, conscientious and respected individual, who consistently achieves the goals and targets of the company and the client. He constantly looks at improving the performance of himself and others within his team. He has received numerous acknowledgements over the years for Health and Safety, from clients for outstanding site performance and customer satisfaction, for his involvement in a workplacement programme and for being involved in community projects. Gary appreciates that our clients not only want the contract work Novus are carrying out to be of the highest of standards, but for them it is important Novus play our part in the wider partnership to help improve these communities.
Novus Garage Team
PerformanceThe Novus Garage Team (Adrian Morris, Robert Hibbert & Brian Hoult) support over 490 company vehicles, carrying out hundreds of checks, repairs, maintenance and valets of vans and cars throughout the year. The team have a combined 40+ years of experience working for Novus (that is a lot of vehicle maintenance). Adrian, Rob & Brian were nominated for the Novus Excellence Award because of their â€œcan doâ€ attitude, commitment, reliability and hard work towards keeping Novus moving.
Long ServiceJulie Brough started with Novus in 1979 and has now been with us for 35 years. She is the Company Secretarial Assistant and her duties include being personal assistant to the finance Director, responsibility for payroll (making sure over 400 people get paid monthly), dealing with the companyâ€™s insurance, and getting all key contracts signed. Julie was nominated for the Excellence Awards because a lot of what she does is behind the scenes and she is loyal, trustworthy, confidential, hard working and reliable and very well respected by all her colleagues.
ProfessionalismMark has worked for the Novus Plymouth Office as a Quantity Surveyor since 2010. Mark works hard in his role and always gives extra time above and beyond in the interests of the business. He has always been willing to give his time to support the business out of hours in both sponsorship locally and also community projects on behalf of clients and the business. Some of the activities Mark has contributed his time to include; a clear up scheme with Sanctuary housing, a community playground painting project for Devon & Cornwall housing, and also fund raising for the Salvation Army (to name a few). Mark was appraised with The Chairmanâ€™s Award in 2012. He has continued to work hard and he is always willing to help colleagues and members of site staff to assist in their roles within the business.
PartnershipTony has worked for Novus for 6 months, he is currently managing the Steelite Factory extension in Stoke and he has built a good relationship with the client and has received positive feedback from the client on numerous occasions. One example of Tony going above and beyond was during the winter storms. Even though it was after working hours he still responded to a client call and helped secure the site from the strong winds that had affected the safety of the hoarding around the site.
Skills DevelopmentOne of our Bathgate-based apprentices Kerry-Ann Yeoman, who studies at Edinburgh College, recently showcased her painting and decorating skills at an event at Scottish Parliament. Kerry-Ann took her tools of the trade to Holyrood and encouraged politicians to try their hand at creating special paint effects. Ed Monaghan, chair of Construction Scotland, said the purpose of the event was â€œto highlight the fact that we need even more apprentices like those whose work we are showcasingâ€. Kerry has been with Novus for 4 years and is coming up to the end of her apprenticeship. She has continually been a great ambassador for Novus and Apprenticeships.
Going Extra MileJames Hawkings is a Painter and Plasterer and has worked for Novus for over 5 years. James works from our Plymouth Office working across the South West Region. He is a hard working individual and has impressed clients with his dedication and quality of work, and he has received positive feedback on numerous occasions for being very flexible and working around the clients needs. One example of this was when James was carrying out painting and refurbishment works at Exeter University, he worked early hours, worked through the night at one point, and at weekends to ensure it the job was completed with at least disruption to the students as possible. The Chancellor of the University even acknowledged how â€˜above and beyondâ€™ Mark went in his feedback Novus.
Customer ServiceDerek has recently been promoted to Contracts Supervisor. He has been employed by Novus on the Home Contract for the past 2 years. Derek has surpassed all expectations which has led to him now supervising a key repairs service contract. Derek is courteous, hardworking and always puts the client and customer first. Derek has been acknowledged because of his all-round efforts from quality and workmanship, to health and safety, to getting involved in community activities. Derek is a well-liked figure in the team, and is looked upon as one of the most reliable and trusted members of the Bathgate team.
Working in PartnershipBrian runs the Plus Dane Painting Contract which we have been working in partnership on for 6 years. Brian was put forward for the Novus Excellence Awards for the key role he has played in building such a strong partnership with our client Plus Dane Housing. Brian and his team consistently achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction, recently the team achieved 99% customer satisfaction back from all residents on one of the schemes they were redecorating. Brianâ€™s Operations Manager commented how Brian hits every target that he is set and that he has a great personality and commands lots of respect from the whole Novus team at the Liverpool Area Office.
Customer CareRachel started with Novus in 2011, she has worked on the Irwell Valley, Six Town Housing and Hanover contracts. Her Site Manager described her as; hard working, honest, committed, punctual, works well in a team and can be trusted to work on her own. Rachel continually goes out of her way to help people and is always a favourite of the elderly residents when working on site. Customer feedback often highlights how she takes the time to make sure the customer is happy and how she takes pride in her work.
Site ManagementWayne is a Site Supervisor for Novus Poole. He started as an apprentice and has now worked for Novus for over 12 years and is very much a team player who takes pride in his work. Wayne has been acknowledged for managing the site for our contract with Poole Housing Partnerships. Wayne takes instructions and gets the job done. He is always ahead of the game and has a great relationship with the client. He is very supportive of his team and takes pride in his work.
Quality of WorkCraig is a Painter and Decorator working across Staffordshire and the North West. He joined Novus as an Apprentice over five years ago and won our prestigious 2010 Apprentice of the Year Award. In 2013 Craig was one of twelve employees from across the business who was invited to join the Novus Scholarship Programme which aims to develop our future business leaders. Craig continues to go above and beyond in his role for Novus, one example of this was when he took part in the Novus Apprentice Challenge were he mentored twenty trainees throughout the day helping complete the challenge to transform a rundown area of Stoke.
Team BuildingAndy works on the national Anchor contract providing refurbishment and redecoration works, Andy is known for building a good rapport with his clients, always putting them first and delivers on what he says. Andy is organised, committed, willing to learn and continually goes the extra mile. Andy clearly likes a challenge as he covers the area from the Midlands, across to Norfolk and down to Devon and Cornwall. On Andyâ€™s schemes his team always deliver a quality service and as result consistently achieve excellent client and customer feedback. Andy was nominated for the Excellence Awards for a recent Charity Challenge he organised, the Charity Canoe Challenge involved ten employees canoeing 12 miles over 10 hours and they managed to raise over Â£2000 for charity.
Skills DevelopmentVicky joined Novus as an Apprentice Painter straight from leaving school. She has been a fully qualified Painter and Decorator for a number of years, and she is currently in the process of going through supervisor training. Vicky is confident, fair and positive person which is reflected in her quality of work, she is also passionate about helping young people develop their skills as she remembers what it was like when she was looking for a career path. Vicky has took part in many employment and skills events like the one shown in the photo which was a Business in the Community Career Fair for school pupils from across Birmingham.
Charity FundraisingAndy is a well respected Operations Manager at Novus, and he was put forward for the Excellence Awards because he not only goes above and beyond in his operations role, he also goes above and beyond out of work as well. Last year Andy set himself the challenge to compete in a charity boxing match in memory of his uncle. The Douglas Macmillan Hospice helped care for Uncle and Andy wanted to do something to show his gratitude to the hospice and give something back. He set about this by putting on a fundraising boxing night. Andy said: "I raised over Â£1000 from the boxing night. I'd never been in a boxing ring before, but I trained for a few months and then had a real fight in front of my friends, family and colleagues to raise money. This is my way of giving something back."
Health and SafetyBarry, who has worked in the construction industry for 20 years, is currently working on a hospital refurbishment where he manages a large team of directly employed and sub-contractors, ensuring all work is carried out with health and safety as a key priority. Baryâ€™s robust health and safety standards were recognised by the Building Safety Group (BSG), after he was named Site Manager of the Year for the North of England Region. Barry commented; â€œI take health and safety extremely seriously and ensure the Novus team at Aintree Hospital is fluid in its operations, working around day-to-day hospital activity and completing work safely and efficiently while maintaining Novusâ€™ high standards.â€
VolunteeringJoe is a Trainee Quantity Surveyor on the Riverside Housing Contract and has been working for Novus for over 5 years. Joe is also following in his fatherâ€™s footsteps, Joeâ€™s Dad, Andy has worked for Novus for over 15 years as a Contract Manager. Joe continues to go above and beyond in his role for Novus, one example of this was when he led a team of Novus volunteers to help transform a residents garden as it had become overgrown and tired as a result of the resident receiving treatment for cancer.
Client ServiceRichard has worked with Novus for over 3 years, one of his colleagues commented that he is the sort of person that you can go to and he will do anything to help you., In his role as Contracts Manager he has worked with clients such West Suffolk Council and Robinsonâ€™s College. Richardâ€™s team continually gain positive feedback from clients because the job is always done well and they like Richardâ€™s hands on approach. Recently while carrying out a Â£165,000 Community Centre refurbishment in Essex Richard and his team received a visit from the Brentwood and Ongar MP, Eric Pickles and the Leader of Brentwood Borough Council, Louise McKinlay and the client commented that Novus are the best Contractor they have every worked with.
Health and SafetySteve is a Senior Contracts Manager working out of our Burton Area Office. Steve has gained many acknowledgements at Novus and always puts himself forward to play an activate role in any opportunities that are put forward. Steve has previously won a â€˜Site Manager of the Year Awardâ€™, and been acknowledged for his commitment to Health and Safety, he is also a member of the Novus Health and Safety Group and has he been involved in numerous community and employment activities ranging from Community Centre refurbishments to mentoring ex-offenders through work placements. It is for all these reason's that Steve was nominated for the Novus Excellence Awards.
YouthBuild UK AwardGlasgow based Novus apprentice, Kim Beagan, was named the 2013 Youthbuild Young Builder of the Year at a ceremony in the Houses of Parliament. Kim, 21, began her career with Novus as a Trainee Painter and Decorator, joining through the Youthbuild programme in 2012. She has been involved with work at Caledonian University, in BTâ€™s call centres and at Glasgow Holiday Inn Express. Kim commented; Being nominated for the Young Builder of the Year award was brilliant. I never thought I would actually win it! I had a great day down in London at the awards ceremony, but it was also nerve wracking and I was very shocked when it was announced I had won.
Working in PartnershipGeoff is a Site Manager at Novus working across the Midlands, he has worked for Novus for over 20 years. Geoff and his team continually achieve excellent standards in customer satisfaction and this was evident in recent scheme to refurbish a homeless centre. Geoff and his team of painters involved the residents in redecorating their own rooms while Novus refurbished the communal areas. This project was not about saving the client money, it was about involving the residents in taking pride in their surrounding and helping them develop new life skills. Geoff has been acknowledged with this Award for not just the excellent work involved in this scheme, but for continually delivering the highest of standards on every contract he manages.
Customer SatisfactionGary has worked for the Novus Liverpool office for over five years, he joined Novus as an Apprentice and proved himself to the team as a hard working and reliable person. He gets on with the job and takes pride in his work. One of his team commented; â€œI can see why the customers like him, he goes above and beyond, he is always helpful, he changes light bulbs, he has even gone to get an old lady some shopping before because she could not make it to the shops, he is just a nice guy.â€ Gary has been acknowledged with this Excellence Award for the excellent customer service he provides while working in peopleâ€™s homes.
Project ManagementBob has worked with Novus for over 5 years, he is known for being upbeat, a joker, and having a great outlook on life, he continually goes the extra mile, and prides himself on being a big team player. Bob works on the Whitbread Premier Inn contract and plays a key role in delivering this multi million pound contract on time and within budget week in and week out. In acknowledgement of this he has recently been promoted within the contract team.
ManagementNovus York Team is one of the most successful in terms of service delivery. To try and define why the team continually leads on achieving financial and service delivery targets, York employees highlighted; strong leadership, working practices, policies, benefits, work conditions and acknowledgement by the management and in particular their Operations Manager. Nickâ€™s has built a strong team spirit that has enabled York to successfully attract and retain talent because employees choose to work there. Nick commented: â€œA strong reputation, being a good employer and our community work all add up and help Novus stand out from the crowd, these areas don't come at the expense of commercial success, they all go hand in hand.â€
Apprentice AwardGareth Ellor was the Novus Apprentice of the Year 2013 award winner. Our chairman Stuart Seddon handed the accolade to Gareth, who has worked from our Manchester base since 2011, for his eager attitude and commitment in the role. Gareth, who has been involved in projects for clients including Whitbread and Irwell Valley Housing Association, was also recognised for his excellent attendance and punctuality records and for his ambitions to climb up the career ladder at Novus. The 23-year-old painter and decorator recently completed his NVQ Level 3 qualification in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting.
